Compare Ohlins part numbers for both. There might not be a difference.

The front may be the same, I'll have to check. The rear is not. On the R1150 the bottom end has the same kind of hole and bushing as the top end.

My heart lept for a moment until I saw they are for an R1100RT, not an R1150RT. Oh well, I keep looking.

My recollection (nearly worthless!) is that the front will work but that the rear shock lower mount point (swingarm) is not the same between the ‘00 and ‘50 bikes. :(

eta: just like Roger said 5 minutes ago!

That lower fitting on the rear shock appears to be threaded on. Does anybody know if the correct fitting for an R1150 can be retrofitted to the R1100 shock?

Unfortunately those don't have the "Touring" badges. That's the hard part. That badge has been long since discontinued.

Long shot, don’t know if they’re a cheap knock off but You can look here for the emblems. :dontknow:

Call Ohlins back east... they can tell you for sure....... IIRC the lower mount is the only difference.

I scored one from Bobs BMW and placed an order for one from Max BMW before I got your PM. If the one from MAX falls through, I will follow up on your info you sent via PM. Thanks you for that! :)

I sent an email and got a very detailed answer back. In short: the front is compatible except that the R1150 uses a stiffer spring. The rear can be retrofitted for about $660 parts and labor (including a rebuild).

Pat, you're obviously getting a bigger bonus than I am. :3:

If good deed cookies and an occasional apple pie constitute bigger, I’m doing pretty damn good!   Gotta be under 50 bucks worth though. ;) :classic_biggrin:

The higher end of “find” of the day but still a pretty decent discount off of new. I think.

A 21 for 21   :dontknow:

Hmm, only 50 miles?

I suppose the guy got the bike home, and it wouldn't fit in his garage next to his Porsche, Maserati, and Rolls.

So, where in Nigeria do I sent my check?🙄  (Aside:  I identified at least four advertisements on Craigslist and cycletrader as fraudulent in the short time I was shopping for my new-to-me 2018 RT last fall, and that's about four ads of 30 or 40 that I looked at, 10%??  By "quickly identified" I mean that I saw the same bike in several ads, with the same park background pix, advertised by different "owners" at different prices, two of those RT ads were for the same bike in one small, backward, middle of nowhere town, which probably didn't have a BMW dealership around it for 500 miles.)  The online ads are rife with fraudulent activity, which the host companies cannot or will not police.  When it sounds too good to be true .....  Well, in this case, maybe at least look for flood damage, or maybe he uncrated it himself and forgot to put oil in it for his first ride.  I dunno ...) 😒

Not saying stuff like this never happens, though.  I bought my 2005 RT in 2008, and if I recall correctly, it maybe had 8K miles on it, maybe less.  It was flawless, and ... well, we all know what happened in 2008.   The guy needed the  money, and was happy to part with it for (again, if memory serves) $8,000, even though low blue book was $12K.   I grabbed my college aged son, picked up a check, and drove two hours to the Long Beach area in record time.  I told my son "This is probably some kind of scam, so be ready ..."  Nope, it all checked out, I gave him the cashiers check, and rode it home.  Blessings from the Lord.

So, I lost my job earlier in the year, had just picked up another at a bankrupt company, so it was far from solid, the financial world is coming to an end, and came home to the wifey with my new BMW!   Was that a fun evening, or what?!  But she was always a good sport!   She hardly blinked an eye when I brought home my loaded new Ford F150, a few weeks later.  Story on that was that I had bought my previous F150 and $4K below wholesale (which I knew for certain,  because I had an inside connection with the Ford wholesale dealer price on EVERY vehicle in North San Diego County, and I beat that price 👍).  The 2008 F150 was $4000(!) less than the one I bought in 2004, so I knew it was a steal.    Then to cap that off, I brought home a new puppy.   I think I slept in the garage for a month after that ....  good times!   🤣🤣🤣

Quite possibly a scam, but this one sounds more like an older gent who was looking for a little excitement in life and realized the little dose of viagra he’s been enjoying didn’t help strengthen his legs. :classic_biggrin:

Well, Pat was saying what he said to a guy who's left ankle barks every time he walks up or down stairs, and only occasionally, totally locks up.  A guy who just bought his 2018 last fall, has two rider on it, and is HOPING he has two good legs when he needs 'em, when the RT decides it wants a rest.  Some stuff he says hit's a bit close to home, ya know?

About the Viagra thingy?   No comment.  Shut-up.  Go away!  A**hole!!!  😡😡

Yeah,  "Lone-RT", I'm sure Pat's loads of fun.  We're all just havin' fun here, especially all of us with white stuff still on the ground outside, fun here because that's all the "riding" we get today.

🍻👍

Couple clues from the 16 GTL ad. There are 21 pictures, scammers are lazy and don’t do that. They aren’t very good pics either which says he doesn’t do it much and isnt a dealer. No Bentley’s or Porsche’s but there’s newish MB and Volvo SUVs in the driveway so it’s probably an extra toy he didn’t like. Looks like a smallish two car garage and it’s def Cape Cod, all the houses have those shingles. He had to move both cars to get the bike out, PITA. There’s also a nice Aluma trailer sitting outside, maybe it could go with it. Photos weren’t taken recently probably last August, he’s just getting a jump on Springtime : )

I did notice how his pictures kind of sucked! (ok that could be considered mean but they do suck. Sorry. :classic_biggrin:

I got suckered into answering one or two that were too good to be true ads. Went through the Craigslist email system and no harm no foul. I didn’t like the reply and ended it quickly. AFAIK, my bank account hasn’t been hit.

Honest question, can you be scammed by one initial inquiry? :dontknow:

I always figured they just wanted your email or phone number (in a text) so they can sell it to advertisers, seems like a crappy way to make a living : )

Pat, I doubt it seriously... no personal information was given??  But I suppose anything is possible in the days of electronics and computers.

Yeah, no personal info given.

Guess my question more specifically is this. When responding through Craigslist does the seller or (scammers) ever get to see your actual email? Or is it hidden behind Craigslist’s firewall so to speak?

That’s a lot of fun for a little a money. We picked up our ‘99 in ‘16 for that very price but with about 70k miles, and it was well worth that money. (Plus we sold it for about what we’d paid a couple of years and 45k+ miles later.)

If you could get that bike for seven grand :dontknow: I think you’d be doing better than the deal you had going with the 800 GS. Too far from me for a peeksee though. :classic_biggrin:

Good memories. There was one that came through the hood growing up that sold ice cream. Man I loved getting those little cups of ice cream with a wooden spoon from Elmer the motorcycle man

There was another one who delivered gallon of milk to our front door. The milk was in a glass container with a wire hangar/handle  and a little paper top. Looked like this except name was Vandervoorts Milk

I’m no detective here but… who stops on an interstate to take a for sale picture? He might be broked down. ;) :)

Agree, a lot of money in parts, paint looks like it could of been a couple grand alone.

maybe it's the only picture he has outside the garage? ...it's only got 400 miles on it so it hasn't been outside much!

If it's a scam the scammer at least gets credit for including (or creating?) a phone number that actually seems to be attached to a real person in the place the ad says the bike is. I'd guess it's real. Not my choice of ride, but it is really shiny...

You'd have to carry a rubber band your your pocket with that open primary. ;)

Shawn

At least that one has a bit of a guard to it, most open drive primaries are just the belt and pullies, waiting to eat your leg.
