Craigslist find of the day

I was enjoying my morning coffee yesterday and doing my morning ritual of browsing motorcycle for sale ads when I spotted this little beauty.

1979 GS850G....the closest Suzuki ever came to making a BMW ..lol

Shaft drive and long considered one of the best and most comfortable touring bike ever made.

Looks like it will be a good winter project.  Some interesting period correct parts..4-1 .exhaust, fork brace, actual super bike bars, Shoei fairing.

Be careful when you whack the throttle open. I remember taking one for a demo ride back in the day and it was a strange sensation going from chain drive to shaft. I’m thinking their setup wasn’t quite ready for primetime.

The bike did a weird lift under hard acceleration and remember it being called “shaft jacking” . It caught me off guard.

Yeah that’s a thing on any shaft back in those days...even bmw. I’ve rode them before... I like the characteristics of an old bike. My new bikes are pretty predictable. 🙂

Can't beat the two for one price.  Would make a great couple of beater/loaner bikes. :jaw:

Will need a bunch of TLC. You need to buy them Pat.

The no title thing could be a PITA depending on the year of the bikes. If I wasn’t in the mindset of thinning the toy collection, I’d take a chance on them.

edit..

Somebody got them!

Wow!   Looks pristine, as though it has never been off-road.  :dontknow:

Yeah, a lot of them do that. :classic_biggrin: Looks to me like he ran out of farkles to dress her in and just got bored. :dontknow: 10.5K would be nice.

Sits there and looks pretty mostly. If you slide smoothly down the road it will help prevent damage to the bike (sacrificing itself in the process). You can see it in the pic of the gs - it’s the black cylindrical thing where the swingarm/final drive pivots.

of course this only hits the ground if you’re not running luggage. I suspect the comment about the owner running out of things to buy for this bike is pretty close to the truth.

I'm just throwing this out there as a WTB. I don't peruse this forum as much as I should, but I am going to hit the follow button now. If anyone comes across a set of R1100RT bags with the touring badges on them, please contact me. These are hard to find. I've been casually looking for a while now of a decent set.  My current set looks like someone took a grinder to the left bag.  I would like a complete set, but would gladly take just the left one. Remember, the GS and R1100R bag have the exhaust cutout in the bag and wouldn't really be the correct bag.  I've put a pic below for reference.

What color do you want that in?

Non-painted and used. I really, really don't want to take a painted bag and try to color match it to my old RT, which never had painted bags to start with.

My heart lept for a moment until I saw they are for an R1100RT, not an R1150RT. Oh well, I keep looking.

Compare Ohlins part numbers for both. There might not be a difference.
