Two and a half decades later, a retelling of The Verve's "Bitter Sweet Symphony":

Looked into this guy a bit, and it turns out he had a really rough time with severe chronic illness in his early 20s.  Here’s a rap in which he engages with a darker version of himself to talk about overcoming his struggles.

PG-13 for language:

I had a friend introduce me to the music of Samara Joy yesterday.  What a voice.  This 23 year old won 2 Grammys this year.  One was for best new artist, winning the general category as a jazz singer is something.  She has a remarkable "old voice", and is a pleasure to listen to.  Enjoy!

For some of us who lived  and experienced a particular time in American history, this is a classic ... for others, not so much  ...

So many quotable lines ...

Just an absolutely beautiful tune

I've been known to do that!

I still hammer the speakers, probably more than I should. But damn, it's a good song, it should be played the way it was meant to be played!

A friend of mine set his bike up with about 800 watts of musical bliss. I'm jealous.

Does anyone remember the Stray Cats?

Rock this Town was a good tune.  Was in HS when they were popular.  Had a cassette tape of them.

Brian Setzer and his orchestra do a great Christmas concert on TV every year.

SRV at his best ... he did enjoy covering Hendrix stuff

This has to be one of the best and unique instrumental interpretations of Little Wing I've heard ...

Its long ,  as it blends intoThird Stone from the Sun... over 13 minutes but if you like SRV and Hendrix its worth the entire listen

LIVE at Ripley Music hall in 1983 ...AUDIO ONLY

Note: the link has been pre-cued to start at Little Wing .

I posted him doing Little Wing awhile back but haven’t heard that version, I’ll listen on the Bluetooth speaker later.

Was thinking about some of the people that have covered it and came across this,  the kid’s pretty good.

Turns out there are a bunch of foreign-language covers of English-language songs out there.  Bowie himself recorded "Heroes" in German:

Here's a Moroccan funk band covering James Brown's "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag":

Meh, still better than the original......and I don't seem to be alone

Quote

Heather Phares of Allmusic called Karaa's interpretation "otherworldly," stating that the track "is so striking that it's one of the finest songs on an album packed with big names."  The Los Angeles Times stated that her version "outdoes the original."

Here she is doing "Turn the Page"

And,.....she's much better to look at than both original artist:grin:

Several remakes I like better than the original

Hank Jr'-Tuesday's Gone (has more feeling)

Otep-Royals (the overall sound is much better)

Jimi Hendrix-All Along the Watchtower (Not a Dylan fan-at all)

Ghost-We Don't Need Another Hero (Just Different)

Ghost-Enter Sandman ( a bit more haunting intro)

Ghost-It's a Sin (metals up the pop)

Johnny Cash-Hurt (you can feel the emotion)

Disturbed-Sounds of Silence (much more oomph)

Marilyn Manson-Sweet Dreams (darker)

Marilyn Manson-Suicide is Painless (really darker)

Bad Wolves-Zombie (this is really close though)
