There was a time I would have brought 3 or 4 cars to give it a try!

In about 2003ish, I went to a 4WD event in Monteagle, TN.  The campground we were staying at had a large pasture behind it that was a bit of a dip.  At night, after all the real wheeling on the trails was over, a bunch would start tearing up this pit.  Some folks would bring in rental vehicles.  Really wished I had video at that time.

One of the drivers had a bone stock suburban that he got from a junkyard (I think he ran the place)  Anyway, had a whole drunk crew riding in the 'burb.  When it would get stuck, he'd just push the skinny pedal and let it ride until the vehicle finally got out, amazing to watch.  Second day, after beating the thing up, every now an then it'd need a squirt of go-go juice to get it cranked up, but right back to maxing the rpm's.

The whole pit was full of a bunch of drunks tearing vehicles up, a blast to watch, but I don't play in the mud.

While we were packing up, I looked over and watched a brand new Excursion take a dip.  Going down the entrance hil, half the hood went under water until the rear leveled back off.

Drive a “slow car” fast Or a “fast car” slow? :dontknow:

I think I know the answer but can only relate to that question with snowmobiles we rented out in Montana. A group of us flew out and rode some “slow sleds” years ago. (I forget if it was price or availability that put us on them) Anyway, we never had so much fun flogging them machines through the trails out there! :revit:

I often described the Miata as "More giggles per gallon." But, flogging a slow car at its limits eventually becomes hitting a wall and not learning new skills. These days my motto is "Never leave horsepower on the dealer's floor."

Here you go, Pat.

Hmm, what’s up with this? I originally thought the price was moving in the right direction but then looked at the fine print.

people do that sometimes because they get tired of lowballers and try to compensate. it's the death knell for selling a vehicle, no one will buy it after a price raise.

those super low mileage cars are mostly for people that don't know enough to use other criteria, granted they're usually nice but you can save a lot by finding one that's been driven some and still taken care of, you just have to learn what to look for.

What he said ^^

I wonder if it has had any service beyond an occasional oil change. ( 987 service list ). A lot of the service items time out - I had the tranny fluid changed just because it was 8 years old; it shifts better for it.

It's a nice car, for $22-23K.

i bet it is, their labor rates are probably $250-300/hr. the only reason to stop in is to see if you can finagle an eager young salesman for a test drive in something fast.

The price isn’t too out of wack, perhaps that dealership has service records for that car, and the car looks really clean. It’s worth a closer look. Be sure to grab a couple squares of the branded shit paper…

in the mid 80's my niece and nephews were about 5, 7, and 9, i'd pile them into the 9llsc and give them fun rides in the mountains, they loved getting tossed around and screamed with joy,. the two boys are both car nuts now, one has an m3 the other several aircooled 9ll's. the girl is a fashion designer and has her own company, she likes old speedsters and sends me photos of them in the parking lot of expensive restaurants.

Mike, seeing how you’ve taken apart your K16 for various jobs, I would trust your wrenching completely. And I wouldn’t care if DyAnne took it out for a spin but if she wanders into the garage while you’re working on it, could ya just unload her favorite “tool” of choice. :D

Retirement is returning my joy of taking stuff apart and putting it back together...

I think that would be a good car. It's probably fairly easy to work on, and would'nt need more than oil changes and the occasional drive belt. There's an incredible amount of help available.

9llsc's are the sweet spot for air-cooled 9ll's, they have all the refinements it took decades to sort out, good performance, and still simple enough for a diy-er. old porsche's are like erector sets for adults, they're made to be taken apart and put back together and nearly everything is adjustable for a perfect fit, spent many an hour in the garage doing it. even the engines and tranny's aren't that difficult with the proper tools, equipment, and guidance/knowledge which most is available on youtube these days.

if anyone wants some practice I know where there’s a light project and can supervise. :classic_biggrin:

maybe not a bad idea, there's a nice little air b and b right next door on the farm my landlord would probably discount for friends but you're gonna have to like ducks, cows, horses, goats, pigs, and other assorted critters wandering around, they're all pretty well behaved except for one goat, as soon as you open a door, he wants to get in and go for a ride  : )

whether it's cool or not is one thing, whether it's worth the asking price is entirely another. i searched craigslist nationwide and it's the only one currently for sale so i'm linking bat results over the past few years to show some comparables. yes i know some think bring a trailer is full of dummies paying ridiculous sums for nice cars but if you don't like it find another source where cars actually change hands.

https://bringatrailer.com/search/?s=porsche+356c+cabriolet

would i pay what they're bringing these days, no, but i've had and restored many (and i mean a lot) when they were worth a tenth of that and less, so am glad i no longer have to worry about it : )

this last one is a 56 Speedster I restored and sold it to a guy for about $18,500. In the 80’s, he still has it, it’s worth around $300k now.
