James Bond was out and about today.

Caught up enough to give a toot of the horm and a thumbs up.  He responded with a wave.

Pretty cool look with an awesome sound.  :yes:20220715_093451.thumb.jpg.dd5a94646f2e7c838c21b6129ff42ac9.jpg

I think this should go right here.

NC State fraternity house armed robbery hit snag with manual transmission: police

Quote

The victim said two subjects pointed a handgun at them and demanded they exit their vehicle. The two then attempted to drive off — but it was not exactly a smooth escape. Because the pair were unable to operate a manual transmission, they left the car and opted to steal the victim’s cell phone instead, police said.

Why, you'd just drive the work truck

Ouch!

But seriously, my wife tells me all the time that I drive too fast, so I'm a perfect candidate for that car.

Part of the problem was that Chevy management would not allow the engineers to work on a mid engine car for decades. It finally came to fruition after the engineers worked on the design off-site on their own hours and came to management with a design that was pretty fleshed out after the main manager that was vehemently against it had died.

I had an 88 EXP.

I'll never understand why someone will park a vehicle and let it sit there:dontknow:,......tis sad really.

An old neighbor of mine has a POS 87 Cherokee that he "intends" to get back on the road,.....he's been "intending" for over ten years, he's 67 now, I highly doubt he'll ever fix it.

My 86 GT. Found out shortly after purchasing it there was some bodywork done to it. It went back to the dealership. Cost me about a grand to do that. :(

Replaced it with this.

I've been a car guy from a young age. Growing up with a dad who was a Ford mechanic, I naturally was drawn to Fords, but have always loved European and Japanese sports cars.

My budget is not where it needs to be to own most of what I'd love to have. I do however have my 79 Mustang into which I poured way too much time and money. But who can measure the value of enjoyment.

DyAnne's daughter just picked up this beauty.  2020 AMG GT 63. It's the base model so only 563 horsepower. She is definitely a gearhead also has a twin turbo Vette, Hellcat Charger and a beautiful Austin Healy MK3000.

Hey Mike, ask DyAnne if her daughter is willing to be adopted.

Actually, she was adopted! Jill and DyAnne were reunited about four years ago.

I’m a bit gullible… Those stories are pretty damn cool! Suppose the internet has exploded the number of reunions over the last twenty years or so.

I'll give you the Readers Digest version.  Our children always knew the story about the adoption.  Jill's adopted mom was a Social Worker and was able to share the circumstances as well.  Our oldest children did the 23 and me thing. UT, the oldest, made his result public on the site and got a notification of a 99 percent match and base on the location knew it was his sister.  DyAnne and Jill have built a great relationship, really cool outcome.

Wretched excess.  Yes.  I want one.  Who doesn't want a 7k lb hauler?  Turn up the volume.

I didn't watch it all but got the gist the testers were amazed at how much the traction control had to intervene to save them from hurtling off into a nearby field with all that power. It reminded me of something that happened 30 years ago while qualifying an old Porsche in the I2 Hours of Sebring. I was driving the Alex Job tube frame GTU 9II with two other co-drivers, it was probably considered the best of a handful of old GTU Porsche's still running in IMSA which had demoted them to backmarker status since they'd pretty much dominated over the two previous decades. But there was a dedicated group of 4 or 5 cars that ran at the back of the field mainly against each other although knowing there was always a shot in the long distance races because of reliability (tortoise and hare syndrome). We were 6-7 seconds a lap slower than the factory backed Nissans and Mazdas in the dry which in racing might as well be a different time zone. You virtually had no chance of winning but for two exceptions, a lot of attrition by your competitors or if it rained, as a 9II could get all it's power down with the rear weight bias.

It did rain on Thursday so Alex had me qualify since I was faster in the wet than the other guy that was faster than me in the dry  (slightly : ) The car was really set up well and easy to drive fast, so good that we ended up on the (provisional) pole. As a fledgling privateer Alex was elated and we were called up into the press box to be interviewed along with Juan Fangio II in the GTP Toyota and Steve Millen, Pro Rally driver from New Zealand in the GTO 300ZX turbo. Provisional being the key word, when they  announced us nobody from the press came over for an interview because they knew the cool front would blow through, would be dry and sunny for Friday qualifying and the world would go back to it’s normal order. Alex was pretty bummed because any publicity is key to attracting sponsors.

All this for the point I wanted to make. We qualified along with the GTO cars that were a lot faster having twice the HP (700 vs 350). I was amazed how well our car hooked up and was able to reel in and pass nearly all the GTO cars including Tommy Kendall in a Roush (factory) Mustang because they just couldn't put the power down and get any traction on corner exit. Except for one, the Morrison Corvette out of Albany, Ga which everyone knew was a backdoor Chevy factory effort, they did it this way so they could bask in the glory if it won but not be publicly committed if it failed, pretty sweet setup.

I could see it up ahead but couldn’t gain on it no matter what and just thought it kinda strange then forgot about it. Until one day about 2005 I was driving my '0I Suburban and realized it had the traction control option which I've since used offroad and works surprisingly well for a 2wd truck. I remembered that Vette in I993, it almost had to be GM testing TC prototype stuff on their race car, no one ever said anything about it (most likely illegal) but I'm convinced it was the case.

I had a twenty year love affair with this car ... salvaged a rust bucket and competed on a shoestring budget until its sale financed my escape from California.

No. It was not an easy decision. I would take it back in a heartbeat, but know full well nothing like that will every happen.  I remind myself of the life its sale set me up for and still know I did the right thing.

The epitome of, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. I like oddball vintage stuff like that, had an early '54 Speedster that handled like a hook and ladder. Every curve was an adventure, you'd turn the wheel and a half second later the rear end would step out then you'd have to correct, I think it had I45 tires on 4.5 in wheels, originally came with 3.5xI6's but you couldn't get tires that size.

Have a buddy with a Triking (Guzzi motor), he gave me a ride one time, pretty much same experience as those guys, crazy stupid fun. Another buddy had a Messerschmitt and scared the crap out of me when he'd get it up on two wheels, passenger sat in back.

I don't keep up on things in the car world.  I was surprised at rear wheel drive.  Thought that was for fork lifts and fire engine ladder trucks?

A 996 Dream car. A bad dream, I think! To the untrained eye, this guy seems methodical in his approach to diagnosing what's going on with this car.  It's a bit long and probably only interesting to somebody that was considering an older Porsche.

So, 'bout 2009, my brother, big NASCAR fan, came through NC to go to Martinsville.  He dropped my mom off to visit with us for a day, but her real interest was going to the race and seeing Petty.

Anyway, mom, big NASCAR fan and even bigger Petty fan (since she's originally from NC).  Petty was doing autograph signings down at his place in Level Cross, so, I take my mom to see her idol.  I buy her jackets and shirts and other paraphernalia and then we get in line.  When we finally get to Petty, mom goes up, takes her happy snap, gets the hug and autographs then the handler asks me if I wanted a picture,...."no thanks, not my thing"  He gives me an odd look and mom and I depart,....she's all happy.

A buddy that's an occasional writer/photographer for Road and Track just interviewed the king a couple weeks ago, look forward to seeing it.
