Yammy Super Tenere....

Coming from a bar? And you think fuchsia with pink and hi-vis yellow would have made him see you any better?

It couldn't have HURT his chances of being seen.

PS Phil, how is Amelia? No Up-date on the thread?

Just a quick note in regard to the mention of ABS and disconnnecting it on the Tenere. If you put the bike on the

the center stand and then go to 2nd gear and let it run

for 20 seconds, the ABS will be disengaged.

From what I have read, you will not want to turn the ABS off.

Tewks, I called my salesman, change mine to WHITE! He says, don't see that option, just send it in and see what happens, work with me on this. LOL.

I swear, last night I had the most vivid dream of me riding a Super 10 off-road & it handled beautifully! Sick boy I tell ya!

Yamaha of Eu and Yamaha od North America are run as separate companies.

They both focus on the regions that they service and use the typical "demographics" to determine what "they" think will sell better.

I was just looking at the pictures of the super tenere and noticed the yellow/gold shock spring. Were they trying to make it look like it had Ohlins on it??? Is this one of those stupid marketing tricks? Like my dodge ram's, "off road package" coming with red painted shocks to look like rancho or edelbrock's?

You know, by the time this thread, on a BMW-centric site, is 90 days old it will probably have 12,000 views...BMW should be thinking really hard about their situation....

More of a long riders forum with lots of BMWs and some others.

I bet if you took a poll, most of the BMW owners are long time owners with a 2005 or older model. Lots of 1100 and 1150 riders.

Got to check out the S10 in person yesterday at the show in NYC. I REALLY like this bike. Looks and feels great in person. Suspension felt a bit soft just sitting on it, but not sure how anything was set up. The first thing everyone was amazed at was just how LIGHT this bike felt. Granted there was no fuel in the tank, but it felt lighter than my KLR with gas in it. Saddle felt comfy and everything was right where I like it. This bike was a huge draw for the crowd compared to other bike. The GS also had a crowd around it as did the Triumphs. Side note, I was really surprised at how low the Tiger 800 sat. I flat footed it with my knees even bent a bit. Looked a lot higher. S10 wasn't bad at all for me heightwise. I just wish I could grab a test ride on this bike. If I don't order one for this year, I'm thinking it will be done in 2012. I really like it alot.

Sure it happened, but just to be on the safe side did ya get any pics?

Did the Tiger 800xc sit higher than the Super 10?

Got a few on my cell, but would you believe that the batteries in the camera died right before we got to the Yamaha area. I made sure that my wife brought spares too, but the kicker is that when I switched them out, either they were dead or her camera took a crap. No pics for the computer  I didn't get a seat on the XC, but my buddy said that it was slightly taller than the regular 800, so I'm guessing that the XC is about the same or even slightly lower than the S10. Sorry bought that... BTW, the dealer that was showing the bikes was giving out discount vouchers for $2000 off MSRP at only there dealership in Long Island. They are supposed to email mine to me. That's $11,900 with the voucher. Might not be too bad a deal if I could haggle with them to get OTD for about that. I'd still have to pay the state when I tag it in PA

I think I read that D&H out of Alabama was the best priced at $12k OTD. The Long Island dealer might be right there with them and within shorter riding distance for me. This is provided that they don't tack everything but the kitchen sink on their pricing. Romney in WV was, I think, the next best priced at $12.5k OTD. That's just a hair closer than the dealer at the show. I have some thinking to do about this...

+1; for the money the Yammy sure does look like the cat's meow compared to the GS.

I was thinking the D&H was the price to bring it home, then you have TTL once you get in your home state.

I think there is a debate somewhere as to what OTD means. To me, the D&H price is what you would pay to get it OTD of their dealership. Set up fees, etc included. Then pay the extra to tax and title it when you get it back to your home state. To me, if I'm buying in my own state, OTD means out the door of the dealership with ALL fees, set up, tax, tags, title all included in that price. Does that make sense?

I could have flown to D&H, but decided to go with my local dealer although it cost me more. If there are any warranty parts involved Yamaha ships to the dealer where you purchased, but no biggie.

This has not been my experience in the past with my new Yamaha ATV and Suzuki motorcycle. Both purchased out of state and was serviced under warranty at the local dealer.

I saw this bike at the New York International Motorcycle show last weekend.. it looks better in pictures.. The GIANT one piece matte black plastic side cover is awful and it smacks of cheap...

No experience here, just going on what my salesman said, maybe he didn't think I was going to buy local.

The test was in Az, doubt they used imperial gallons.

Resistance is futile.

gOOD oNE, David.

I bought / ordered the SinisterBlack combo for the reason stated above. Yammy in blue with that funky black side panel looks goofy - easy rattle can or body shop fix, but just another thing to "fix".

I believe this scoot will be an incredible value and knowing the Yammy history should prove to be a rather large seller here locally. 4 buyers in our Bahnsturmer M/C group alone.

It seems several of us have been waiting for this machine to come over and in a couple three months it'll be under our hot crossed buns.

I'm thinking about getting into this style of bike. I really liked it at the bike show in January. They had one with the bodywork removed, and I was impressed with the apparent workmanship and relative ease of access for DIY maintenance.

But one concern remains, and that is seat height. I'm 5'9" with an inseam between 31" and 32" inches. When I sat on this bike at the show I could flat foot it. But I presume that they had the pre-load all the way down.

How tall do you have to be to ride one of these comfortably?

Dibs when you decide to sell it!

I'm in negotiation now with my dealer.

I just got my payoff from my lemon buyback on the GT. That only took 6 months! :dopeslap:

We shall see if I get it local or distant.

I am 32" inseam and I could flat foot it. The seat has 2 settings. But in the end everyone has their comfort level on seat height. One of the Yamaha escort riders at IMS Dallas was 5'9" and he said that it was JUST low enough for him with seat in low position.

I am 5'11" but more body than old legs, 30" inseam. My R1200GS is lowered 1" and I am just flat footed with a stock seat. I sat on the Tenere at the bike show and felt about same as my lowered GS.

I'd be comfortable on it.

I just stumbled across this post.

I don't think I'm ready to put $500 down, but I am looking forward to getting a demo ride in May.

The US dealer across the border from me in Bellingham didn't respond to my e-mail inquiry about international warranty on these bikes, but I'm assuming that Yamaha's position will not be much different from BMW's. With the C$ at or near par, the US pricing on the Super T is about $2600 cheaper in the US.

I sat on one today, and it seems to me to be about as tall as a GS.

I certainly couldn't flat foot it, but I can's flat foot my RT.

I like the looks and feel, I think at this price point, they will sell a lot.

I was as at Chapparrel (sp?) in San Bernardino, that's by far the biggest bike store I have ever been in. Just the tire section waas the size of a Safeway store.

Amazing.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but the salesman at the bike show demoed the built in diagnostic mode for me. You can do things like display the throttle position sensor (live), run self-diagnostics, test fire each spark plug (and stick coil) individually, etc. Apparently, there is no external diagnostic tool required. All diagnostic functions are accessible from the RID. Looks good for DIY folks.

Link to comment

First I have heard about that, great news tho. The Duc is a great bike, but can't do anything unless you take it to the shop for their computer. I am a DIY guy.
