longjohn
The rain we’ve had this week cooperated nicely for me. I was able to hike on Tuesday, and Thursday, and today was able to squeeze in a regular Friday ride in the Santa Monica mts. It rained Wednesday and is scheduled to rain tomorrow. Here on Cornell rd: for those of you who have put their bikes up for the season, I was thinking of you today. 6 1 Link to comment

I know two people that have had the same injury, one had it in both legs. I am getting recommendations for physical therapists. It sounds like the leg will be locked straight until mid to late January then work to add motion then add strength. Riding with a flexible brace in summer is possible. Right now I am learning how to get around with one leg locked straight. The friend with both legs injured was nicknamed "tin man" by his family. Link to comment

Lowndes
Went for a little 5 hour stroll today. 62° F and PC, just perfect. 'cept for some traffic gettin away from the city. Did a round trip up to Bell Mountain in Hiawassee just to see what the view was like with the leaves gone. My favorite time of year, especially to ride. Stopped in Helen at Betty's (different Betty's from Bama John and Bernie's "Betty's") for a tuna salad sandwich that "couldn't be beat"ª and a cup of her Amaretto spiced coffee. You wouldn't like it. Not many folks up on the top but somethin tells me a bunch have been there recently. The world's largest collection of psychedelic petroglyphs adds a little pizazz don't you think?? A thousand years from now a group of archeologists will get a five hundred trillion dollar grant to decypher and decide the true meaning of "Joey luvs Sue". Climbed the southern peak (it's a bifurcated peak with a parking lot in between) for the first time. Rocks, rubble, and roots all the way. The taller north peak has a flight of never-ending wood steps from the parking lot. I like to find a fat lady at the top panting and complaining about the climb and ask her, "Why didn't you go around back and take the elevator like we did??" Then I'll tell the kids there's a Coke machine right beside the elevator. They'll be scouring the woods all around there the rest of the day. Great view but all I could think was Lady, Do Not let that mutt on a string pee on my tires... That's Alt 75 heading due south, up the valley and over the ridge towards home, upper middle right. I don't think you'd like it either. All the pics: https://photos.app.goo.gl/B7fnECeafkoRuxLp7 ª Guthrie, Arlo, "Alice's Restaurant", "Alice's Restaurant Massacree", 1967 14 Link to comment

Bernie
Today I joined a local group for a street ride, CADS. They normally are a off-road riding group, but Ashley decided to organize a on road route to a interesting looking restaurant/bar. We meet at a Dunkin Donut's on the west side of Jax. It was a little cool, around 60F. As we headed west and north towards Fargo in GA, the temps dropped to 55F and I had to figure out how to turn on the heated grips on the new RT. (they do work). The planned route was 231 miles or so, except my TFT said it is it is 381? KM. BMW updated the BMW Conneted App for the iPhone and it now displays my routes in KM. It also displays the speed limits in KM. But it gives spoken directions in Miles? You really have to wonder sometimes if nobody actually tests or uses these things before they send them out to the public. Any way we made it to the gas stop and then to lunch. We had a very interesting mix of bikes. A few KTM’s, Hondas, 2 V-storms, a couple RT’s, a CVO Harley and even GS, oh and a Aprilia. I am sure there where some other bikes, but I was to busy trying to keep my TFT connected to the phone. First stop to meet up with another rider in Moniac on the border of FL&GA at World Honey Market. Gas stop and undressing stop in Waycross, GA. It had warmed up into the low 70’s. The following picture is from the court yard of Captain Stan’s. A unique place to hide from reality. And get some great food. Besides they also seem to have a well stocked bar. 300 miles on the day for me and the Triple Black RT. 5 Link to comment

It is a nice place to moto camp and they have a lot of twisties both paved and unpaved in the area. @TEWKS you should look in the Banner Elk, NC area for our START offroad adventures as well. Weather was great going over and it was supposed to be nice all day saturday with the rain moving in towards late saturday early sunday. Well as per the norm rain came in Friday night late and was raining all day. So we headed out early Saturday and rode in the rain at about 50 degrees half way back home. No pictures, sorry. Definitely will be heading back there to explore again. 2 Link to comment

Dennis Andress
Near the top of Kitt Peak The road to the observatory had been closed since the Contreras Fire in 2022, opening just a couple of months ago. The fire did reach the observatory and damage a few buildings. Usually after a fire there is a big cleanup effort and all the unburned fuel is removed. Not here, there is considerable undergrowth and dead vegetation all over the place. The view from 6800' 10 Link to comment

Joe Frickin' Friday
El Nino is currently doing good things for us up here in Michigan. Sunny and 57 yesterday, went for a nice walk with Masako. A little cloudy today, but it still hit 50 - in the middle of December - so I broke the bike out and went for a ride. Most notable thing I spotted was a harvested corn field with a couple dozen turkeys wandering around and picking up scraps. Mostly I'm just pleased with how the hi-viz stickers turned out now that they're on the bike. The helmet has had chevrons since 2018, but the ones on the bike are new: 6 Link to comment
Bernie
Today’s weather forecast was iffy at best. 80-90% chance of rain, what ever that really means. But it was time to meet the fellows for the monthly SECFF Lunch in Lyons, GA. Due to personal issues, I departed the house a little early. Decided to take the longer of the 3 routes I had planned to the lunch in Lyons. Normally I stop in Baxley at a favorite coffee shop for breakfast and coffee, but today I decided to stop and check out a new place in Blackshear, GA, that I saw on my way home from FART. It turned out to be a nice surprise, including the hard packed gravel parking lot (for all my GS/KTM friends). The staff was friendly and the coffee and sandwich tasted good. Here are a few pictures. After the refreshments, I continued my route and as I made a turn onto Ten Mile Road, the BMW Connected app voice informed me to continue on Ten Mile Road for 12 miles. Even though this was correct, it just sort of made my day. Of course I arrived at the lunch place, Hardware Pizza in Lyons too early, but I wasn’t the first to arrive. After a great lunch and some extended story telling. It was time to head to the house. Just as we all decided to assemble outside of the restaurant for a group picture, it started to rain. It of course made the procedure of getting geared up and the departure a little hurried. But as we, I meet a friend from Jax at the restaurant who was on his way home from a few days in NC and TN, rode south in a not so straight line, the rain stopped. But as promised by the weather know it alls, it started to rain lightly as we entered Florida. Perfect day of riding on the Triple Black RT, now the bike is a mess. But at least now I have something to do tomorrow, clan the bike. 13 Link to comment
