Hey Ken, nice photo of your great looking bike, but are you not at the wrong coffee shop?

I’m working on it. Guess I still have a ways to go to totally fit in with the GS crowd. Baby steps!🙂

Took a ride around Jordan lake. It is full from the rain. Letting a lot off via the spillway.

Since it looked like it would be a nice day, I decided to go for a ride up to Georgia. I met Danny in Callahan, FL for coffee, then we rode a bunch of country roads to St Simeon Island on the East Coast and had lunch at a great BBQ place, Southern Soul BBQ.

No pictures during the ride, busy controlling the electrons of the BMW RT.

January and Febuary I try to find a day to get out for a ride, even if a short ride, so I can say went for a ride in every month of the year here in west Michigan.

Can I get a witness!! Lord forgive me for skipping work to go ride! I had to turn around and take a snapshot. Rolling the dice on a Dunlop Roadsmart 3 on the rear also. Gotta love fresh rubber and a good laugh. Confident this tire will help me give Bernie and Dirk a run for their money in April. Praying BoxFlyer can install a new powerband and maybe some of those split fire spark plugs to give me that extra exit speed out of those gravel turns that Bernie said we wouldn't be riding on. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Keep smiling girls! Life sho is good on two wheels.

So it’s Saturday afternoon and I need to write another ride report.

The weather has warmed a little from the previous days and I had a appointment to meet a few local fellows for a ride.

Due to bridge construction, I decided to meet them at a new location this morning.

Love Donuts & Smoothie in Middleburg, FL

Well when I got there @Huzbandwas already consuming one of these special donuts.

I don’t know what ingredients they use, but he liked it so much, he ordered seconds.

IMG_9543.thumb.jpeg.61903ef3686622b2a850b3d80234dc31.jpegIMG_9544.thumb.jpeg.d7ff6a174391351b13241c76d7b56863.jpegIMG_9546.thumb.jpeg.d361f223bfbcc0dfe389611979e57271.jpeg

So once everyone arrived and consumed there donut of choice, we started the ride. They actually where all smiles.

Maybe it’s that flashing light on the back of my helmet? :5146:

Any way after a few hours we stopped in Micanopy at the Old Florida Cafe for lunch and some more refreshments.

In the mean time it had nicely warmed up and the bikes and riders were covered in pollen.

So after sitting there on the porch and telling lies, one of the guys, Bil asked if we should ride some more or talke a nap.

So we got back on the bikes and rode home.

I guess the guitar probably could have used another donut or two. Oh well.

Here are a few pictures of the lunch location in the middle of February.

My sandwich, some sort of Cuban type of sandwich. Very tasty.

Saturdays weather provided a good riding day in N GA. No pics of lunch but had an excellent burrito in a very small town. Got to put a few break-in miles on a new RDL seat as well.image.thumb.jpeg.147e36d9c2a4be757ad3c3287cef3bc4.jpeg

I went the opposite direction and headed into Alabama for some barbecue. It was a good ride, but I would have rather been in the North Georgia mountains that's for sure. I'm on the south side of Atlanta and it just bugs me to have to get through ATL traffic to get to the mountains some days. This Saturday I just wasn't in the mood. But there was good barbecue. 😁

Good day for a ride on CA-243 over Idyllwild between storms.  Not many places to stop for pics with the slushy or muddy turnouts.

After the rain yesterday, I decided I needed to ride around a little to enjoy some of the sunshine. It was a little breezy today. I had a nice ride to downtown Valdosta, GA for some coffee and a bagel. After that I headed north a little, before turning west and on then south on the west side of I-75. A little tree damage from the last hurricane of the season, and the piles along the highway are getting tall. But the nice secret roads still have their charm.

I like riding in 60 F degree weather. I'll do 50s, but I won't do 40s unless I am riding a bike to my storage place.

I know, I know, heated seats, heated grips, heated chaps,  heated vest but I feel like a kid in a snow suit when i wear all that. All I do is turn it down, anyway.

So, what's the lowest teperature you plan on riding in, during a trip??

I’ll leave home in the 30’s if I know the forecast is for temps warming to upper 40’s or higher

I've ridden in below freezing weather. Not for a trip, but for a day ride.

If winter riding, it is better if below 25° F, otherwise the snow and streets start to melt, making it too sloppy.

If streets are clear, no snow, I prefer it to be in the 40's or better, but 30's is pretty common for me - yay heated gear!

30's sounds low, but if it has been  0° or colder for a month, 35° is a heat wave!

I realize many here just don't grasp the concept of riding in snow or freezing cold weather, but around here, if you don't (many don't because wussies), you miss out on months of riding, and we just don't have that many to begin with. I love riding too much to give that time up.

Since the RT is in pieces getting ready for Start, I decided to take a scoot on the scoot. They are dredging the 1 mile channel from the end of the island to the lighthouse.

Three of us couldn't make it happen on Saturday (and it was a BEAUTIFUL day) so we gathered up this morning at the crack of 10:30 and headed for North Georgia for some Blood Mountain, Richard B. Russell, Bell Mountain twisties fueled by a lunch stop in Helen at Betty's.  We know the secret back way in and don't have to negotiate all that weekend Hell-in Georgia traffic.  Betty's is a country store with a de rigueur bar at the Main Street end, an old time country grocery and sundries in the middle, and a bakery/deli in the back that few know about with three tables by the windows and three coffee pots, one always has Betty's Blend that has a good hint of Amaretto and something else.  You get a large sandwich made exactly how you want it, a side of your choice, a bag of chips, and under the sandwich paper is a pickle spear and a large homemade cookie.  I got two cups of coffee 'cause I spilt the first one all over the table and an apple strudel to help the cookie.  The tab was $11.60 and that was sweeter than the strudel.

Big Randy had to skedattle back home after lunch so Libin and I headed up GA17-75 to Bell Mountain to check the view.  Met a guy on a Harley GS.  He says it's a very good touring bike.  The view was very good, too.  Then we lit the fuse for the ride back home ourselves.

A really good ride for the first in three months.  254 great smiles only marred by a psychotic front brake that would come and go.  Kinda worrisome when you need to grab a handful and there ain't nuthin there and have to figure out sumthin else to do real quick.  Can't let it mess up a nice day for riding, tho.

Those side cases look huge.  Is it because they're mounted on less than full size touring bike?

100 miles clocked yesterday. Could not stop because the battery was iffy at 7am, so kept the revs up and rode mid-afternoon.  76F degrees and wind gusts to 20 to 35 mph. Sandy,  SouthWest Wisconsin roads.

Tires are good and the 19 R1250rt takes the sidewind pretty well.

That bike is the best one I've ever ridden.

After getting stranded one time, I never leave home without a jump starter.  There were zero signs of a battery issue.  I started up, rode to the gas station....dead.  Jump starters are cheap enough and small enough to carry now.

I just returned from my “sometime in the week” ride. @BMW_Ken texted me that he be passing through on his way to Daytona Bike Week (Freaky Freak Show Week) and suggested that we maybe should meet for a cup of coffee.

So I met him in Green Cove Springs, west of the St Johns River and south of Jacksonville, FL. The Sunshine State put on its best face and then covered it in a heavy layer of fog. :4317:

Any way, Ken rolled up at 9 AM like clock work. We had a few cups of fresh coffee and a breakfast biscuit, made for a giant.

Triple Black RT and a GSA from TN.

Oh, and a Suzuki 1000 tried to photo bomb the picture.

IMG_9737.thumb.jpeg.d3249e4c224442457a91b7204e1ebb58.jpeg

We discussed a few things like the differences between his GSA and his RT. Then the subject changed to his future travel plans. He wanted to get to the camp ground before the liquid sunshine was going to be released, which is fully understandable. Nobody really enjoys pitching a tent in the rain.

I suggested to him an alternate route, with a little better scenery and a few bends.

We rode down together to his campsite, where I wished a good time at Bike Week and I turned west, before riding north to get home.

As I got closer to home, I realized that I was getting hungry again and decided to try this place finally.

It has been torture, riding past this place, smelling the smoke. So today I decide to check it out.

I didn’t know they also had indoor seating, which was nice, since it started to rain a little by now.

Besides great food and good service, they also had some interesting decorations.

You asked for pulled pork? I dare you to pull on this pig. :4322:
