When he asked you about your service to country, you should have given this new trend a go, it’s been growing in popularity. :spittake:

One other time I got stopped for speeding, since I passed two dozen cars, and him, on the freeway, again asked if I knew why I was stopped.

My response: "I do. Pretty much everybody driving past us right now knows why I was stopped!"

I got the state trooper to laugh (not easy), he let me go.

I did something similar on the North Cascades highway in Worshington.  Rode behind 5 cars for miles.  That state has a rule if you block greater than 3 vehicles behind you, you pull over and let them by.  Not happening.  So at a reasonably straight stretch I down shifted and nailed it.  Probably doing 90 before I pulled back in.  Drove blissfully 10 over the limit when red and blue appear behind me.  One of the vehicles I passed was a sheriff in a white suv w no external light bar.  He scolded me thoroughly, but did not cite me.  Mean while all those cars drove past probably wagging their fingers at that reckless MC rider.

Had wonderful 304 mile ride from Steamboat Springs up to Snowy Range Mountains in WY (just west of Laramie).   46 degrees at the top (10,800), and mostly bright sun and manageable winds.   We were here exactly 10 years ago, and my wife had to recreate the same picture from then!

Similar while driving my wifes truck.

'Twas a long merge lane, both drive lanes occupied, speed limit double nickels.  I knew it was a long merge lane so I throttle the 6.2 and hitting mach 8.0.  I notice a black pickup swoop behind me,....think nothing of it as he likely wanted to get ahead of those slower drivers as well,.....a chaser, nothing more.  I get ahead of the clog, merge in, black truck continues to follow, I maintain cruising speed.  Move over to pass 'nother vehicle, black truck behind me, then blue lights from the black truck :16:  Damn, never saw a local LEO in a unmarked pickup truck.  Anyway, I move into the right lane to start getting on the shoulder.  Black truck then gets even with me as I'm slowing down and he gives me the "slow down" hand signal,......I give him the thumbs up and slow down until my exit.

I've been fortunate

Unmarked pickups, mustangs and SUV’s I’ve seen ….. it was the unmarked corvette that surprised me.  Forget where I saw it but it blew me away.

Wife and I decided to beat some of the southern heat and came up to our camp for a month. National Forest in Tidioute P.A.  She said that she’d like to ride a little, so we brought her scooter and a kayak. When she paddles I ride and vice a versa.Saw this road today and thought, what the hell. Absolutely beautiful. Don’t believe there was a straight away more than 50 yards EA588496-6ED9-4391-85F5-38848B5F7E52.thumb.jpeg.86dce7a64af3ef55cf43251f9f29008c.jpeg6DBCDA48-786B-4FF4-93C0-1D5235AE048B.thumb.jpeg.50c36e7f6460c41f38b1ce8b0fbe515e.jpeg39745257-CA41-48B7-B812-56813EA94FBE.thumb.jpeg.790c7545fb938886d72168375e4f6dfd.jpeg811167A5-F99C-4F83-BD3A-83142C099EB1.thumb.jpeg.ba2c64f7d832e1fbbc8f476036bf34b4.jpeg

The scenery was simply breath taking but didn't have time to stop for more photos. I was blazing a trail in and out of those isles on what had to be my best laps ever. Had a couple "moments" at the cigar'oom turn just as the lights dropped but I'm sure it was cold tires. Not any competition to speak of today prolly due to the Buffalo Trace being sold out. I'd like to give a special thanks to ANGELs ENVY for stepping up for the sponsorship this week as well.  🤣 cheers gentlemen. Have a lovely evening. 20230814_183015.thumb.jpg.4ed8b435b06326b98477db783882f9b0.jpg

Great ride today.  From Steamboat to Kremmling (over Muddy pass and Rabbit ears pass),  south to Silverthorne, then over Copper Mountain (Freemont pass), then through Leadville and over Independence pass.  To Glenwood springs, east to Wolcott and last minute decision to hit 134 (Gore pass).  Then back into Steamboat.  Temperatures from 34 to 86.

Today over one of our favorite passes -Berthoud.  Going over and finding a lovely picnic spot, we rode in nearly cloudless sky on the way TO Berthoud from Steamboat.   Nice 240 mile ride with my favorite person.

All good things must end, and our two week, last minute trip to CO is about done as we head east tomorrow.  On our last ride, stopped to see if we could get a good shot of Finger Rock along 131, just south of Steamboat.   The rock stands out in such a bold contrast to the rest of the landscape.   The picture really doesn't capture the  height, but it makes me smile every time we go by it

Our route home is through Poudre Canyon (my wife will drive the car/trailer and let me enjoy the trip through Poudre and over Cameron pass).  Then, since the temperature is to be 90-95 mid day,  we will load the bike and head home.  3302 CO miles from August 5-19, average 56.2 mpg two up!, all in all a great time.

For you, reaching the Bitterroot River would be quite a trip. For us it was just right on her 78 Honda XL75.

Oh man, my brother and his wife just gave away an XL 75 very similar to that. Maybe a year or two older. She had the thing since she was a kid but they just got tired of stepping around it in the basement I guess.  The guy that grabbed it drove a hundred miles to get it and forced him to take a hundred bucks for it. I was like oh man, those things are climbing in value but stopped there. I think he easily gave away a grand.

Good karma will  come back to him for getting someone onto a great little runaround and starting them on their journey to enjoying a life of riding.

... manual choke, kick start, fuel valve that must be turned off when not in use, low speed, but very easy to handle once you conquer those little details.

New beginner bikes would be a lot easier, but nothing can touch the cool factor of a 45-year-old.

Well, replace it with a XL175

I hadn’t been out in the Malibu hills for what seems like months, choosing instead to stay close to the coast for the cooler temps for my Friday rides. But curiosity got the best of me, and I was delighted at the views that I had. I could clearly see the SG Mts, and the SFV, and the hills above Santa Paula. It was almost like a fall day, except for the 95° heat.

The last of the road runoffs from this year’s rainstorms had finally dried up, but there was still part of Tuna Cyn Road that was missing a lane due to slumping from those rains.  Hopefully we won’t get hit too hard by tomorrow’s tropical storm.

Oh the latimes reported that the snake will be opening in a few months, for you mulholland hwy fans, though some new safety features will try to discourage the hooligans and pseudo racers.

It has been hot this summer, but the marine influence has kept the South Bay from those stifling overnight temps of years past,  knocking on wood.

A couple of pics from a curvy Malibu road.

I did a 142 mile ride to Palatka, FL to check out a new diner and wear in the new Dunlop Roadsmart 4 tires. IMG_8082.thumb.jpeg.3f03c33f66305d028683422c30915117.jpegIMG_8083.thumb.jpeg.850730417b292c3b178bbc03727e9778.jpegIMG_8079.thumb.jpeg.f6d71ebe549da5f560f73cf27df3ab1b.jpeg

After breakfast, on the way home I stopped along by the river and took a few snaps. Beautiful clear, but hot morning.  IMG_8091.thumb.jpeg.617f015948614ab9ae54038a6a984d7b.jpegIMG_8087.thumb.jpeg.a96c0426b3ee1477fd5cec62ee837352.jpegIMG_8089.thumb.jpeg.d76fff1494edc6b1d62702bc103cb59e.jpegIMG_8085.thumb.jpeg.d96190e5e91d31b9e6e727ac64e8abec.jpeg

You must have worked the assembly line at one point, because the pictures I saw of that bike looked like it was starting out in the beginning as your bike.  Tires are one thing, but the rest of the finished product was another.   :revit:

Well, sometimes you have to take it all apart to get it really clean and to remove all the trapped bugs from the hidden places.

I figured while I am already cleaning all this stuff, I may as well change the shocks and the drive shaft. I also changed the oil, the oil filter and the air filter.

I added some engine coolant and refreshed the LED fluid in the headlights. During the tire change, I replaced the rear disc and rear brake pads. The disc was getting a little skinny. Skinny is good some times, but too skinny isn't good either.:5150:

Well, she looks pretty decent, from the distance with 97800 (s)miles and counting.
