This counts. Cuz I say so....

Met a nice guy named Dan from central Indiana at lunch today. And whom I learned is probably a regular user here.

Hi Dan! Or was it Don? Sorry...

Rode the S1000RRs #17 and #18. It's an awesome bike. If there was any question.

Got a call from a very grumpy Big Randy at 10:01 PM Fri evening, the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, to tell me that since I had ignored all of his texts for the last 6 hours that he was NOT going to ride with me in the morning.  I apologized, said I'd been in the yard catching up on some chores and when I came back in had indeed failed to check the phone.  Only thing I was looking for at dark was a cold beer and a chair.  He said, "OK.  Can you meet at 9??"  Sure!!  He really wants to leave at 10 and I like to leave about 6 so that was a good compromise.

We took the regular route route around Dahlonega to 19, up and over Blood Mountain, except for a small adventure with an old "Ken Route" Randy had on his XT.  The road started off small, got worse, turned into gravel, then turned into a brand new gravel road to a pipeline construction site and a guy digging a foundation for a new house.  We saw the locked gate across the road ahead and in the process of turning around I stalled the bike.  Then it decided to do the old K12/13 hot-start no-start routine.  My jumper battery wouldn't even do it, so Randy rode down to the guy digging and asked for a jump.  He was NOT pleased to find us on his private property but after some conversation/explanation he and Randy were best of friends, we learned all about his house and the pipeline, he pulled out his cables, and I got started.

We stopped at Sunrise to fill up on 91 non-ethanol and waiting in line on the Cardo I hear Randy talking to a guy about an Interceptor.  All I could see was that it had matching bags and was bright red.  I get out, see it, and am summarily smitten.  It is PRISTINE, FLAWLESS, SHOWROOM CLEAN, AND GORGEOUS.  Now THIS is what a SPORT BIKE is suposed to look like!!  We chat for a few minutes, he's going our way and follows us over Hogpen Gap on Richard B. Russell Pkwy on the way to Betty's in Helen.  At the end of RBR we pull over to get some pics of the bike.  He bought it new from a dealer in Mobile in '19 who was glad to move it.  I can't get it out of my head that I 'm in Mobile 4-5 times a year so WHY didn't I find that bike??  It's REALLY too nice for me, tho.  I couldn't ride it for worrying about it.

Barber is a blast!  I did level 1 there several years ago. Going back next year with my son ( DyAnne is giving us a Christmas present that she doesn't know about yet!).

Several guys at the NCMP CSS last week said 'you MUST go to Barber'. Maybe I'll see you guys there for my Level 3 and 4 next year.

Went out for a ride today. Bike fired right up and off I went. Stopped at a marina about 30 miles away to check something out. Got back on the bike, turned the key, hit the starter, just a click then nada. Luckily someone there had jumpers and after about 5 minutes the bike fired up. Made it back home with no problem. Assumed it is the battery, so I got out my maintenance book. To my surprise the battery in it is almost 9 yrs. old. I never change them until they show signs that the end is near. Hope I get the longevity out of the next one, but I doubt it. Don't worry. I am not going to start a battery thread

After some bad battery experiences, I change mine out every 3 years.  They may have another year or two of service, but I don't want to be stranded again, especially on a long trip.

It’s been a super nice spring in the Mid Atlantic this year from a weather standpoint.

A great day to do anything on two wheels, so some dual sporting was on the menu.

Does this count? Out for a ride yesterday, you just don't see this every day. Perfect conditions for the operator to drop down and buzz the river.

There was a bike night at new century in Alhambra on Thu, so I rode up for the tacos and salad and rice and beans, and to socialize and see the other bikes. It’s the second Thursday of the mo from may to October, I think.

OK Lowndes, you just had to get me started!  It is and will be replaced with a Bike Master Platinum. I still gotta brag on my 12+ year Odyssey pc680 going strong. Even after getting a little jostled on our rocky hill climb. LOL

There was a small event this past weekend in Virginia...... 6500 of your closest friends.  I managed to find a few BMWST'ers from both the East and West. It was definitely a good weekend.  :)

Not today, but a few days ago I went for my first ride since my knee stopped wanting to work back in February - also my first ride ever on this bike I'd agreed to buy just before the knee thing. Just across town to deliver a book to my niece and probably a bad idea as I still can't bend enough to comfortably get under the shifter. Oh well - I didn't die!

Nice Montauk!

It’s interesting. I’d never ridden one until a few days ago. This one was purchased from the original owner in 2008 w/900 miles. I bought it from the second owner who put 10k on it in ten or so years, but then it sat from 2020 until now. Could use a tune and tires but seems good. He lived in the sf Bay Area and rode the coast a lot. It was always garaged but it’s got some salt air corrosion on some parts when you get up close.

I'm no expert on anything, especially rare vintage autos, but this car sure had the very subtle, uniform patina that comes with 60+/- years of polishing, use, and care.  It had a robust and very solid look, no frills, nothing fancy and everything fit together.  The passenger shoulder harness had the most wear.  If it's a kit it is a very well done kit.  Sadly I didn't get to hear it. Must have been nice if it was a 427 with those pipes.

It was a Really stormy sea, the ship was rocking too and fro, and REALLY big wave washed this boat ashore !
Or maybe Micheal rowed the boat ashore :)
OR maybe they just dragged it across the road from the River ;)

Followup -

Yesterday at the gym I asked every old guy there if he was the owner.  Even asked the young cutie at the front desk who was driving it. "What's a Cobra?" was the retort.  Showed her the pics, told her it's worth a large pile of $20 bills.  That got her attention.  Said she wanted a pic for her boyfriend who is a car guy.

Today on the stair stepper I noticed a group of six geezers, regulars here, on the machines.  Knew one of them would know.  Walked over and showed the pic to the first one and four more had to see.  I asked if anyone knew who was driving it.  Five first fingers pointed in unison to the guy on the curl machine.   Big grin and shook his head knowingly as he finished.  Said it is a 2000 replica, had it since 2012, bought from the original owner who was just a polish guy and that's what he continued and gives it the patina.

Told me the engine broke about five years ago.  One of the heads cracked, the crack was thru an oil gallery to the cam which starved the cam and trashed the head.  At breakfast the next morning he was lamenting at length to the wife about how much it was going to cost to fix it and how much trouble it was going to be.  She looked at him and said, "Why don't you just have somebody fix it and build it back bigger, better, and badder than it ever was?"  So he called the shop, told them what she said. "WE'RE ON IT." was the reply.

I told him SHE is a keeper!!  And congrats on both!!  Super nice guy.  He calls it his "open top coffin with a death wish".

On the Car Channel last night, I saw a great segment narrated by the Ford designer who worked with Carrol Shelby on the Cobra concept car.  Minimalist focus like the original, but an aluminum body, better brakes, and a V10 engine that put out 645 horses.  It debuted at the 2004 auto show in Detroit.  Looks very cool.  I don't think it was put into production.  I saw this morning that one sold at auction for $2.45 million!

Hemet Lake.  Couldn't get the bike near the water so this'll have to do.  Lake was full after this years rain.  Lots of trees underwater that grew in while the lake was low.

Last weekend, I rode the RT to southern Indiana

Bedford IN, annual Suzuki GS rally. Have been going since 2005, on 850G and  then 1100GK.

Rode down to there Thursday (330 miles).

Rode around area on Friday and Saturday. And rode back on Sunday, on/off rain most all the way.

Some pics of what some of the roads are like there. And some other pics.

Can approach from east or west on paved roads. Was road closed to approach from the east, so I came in from the south on 1.8 mile of gravel (well, around there is crushed limestone). I went out to the west. From this view are seeing maybe half of the trestle.
