I’m glad you put up with the aspiring Ansle Adams in me.
Decades ago when my buddy & I backpacked the Sequoia’s when ever I stoped for pictures he would remark “Hurry up & take the F-n picture……

Lets go before they raise the parking rates!!!”

He taught me to capture the moment on the fly so there’s that.

Lol, it's always a challenge for me.  Gotta park the bike somewhere picturesque where (a) it won't fall over, (b) it won't get run over, and (c) I can manage to get back on it and ride it.  I parked on the center stand on the side of a road which was pretty solid gravel, next to a nearby lake, only to find out that the gravel wasn't all that solid.  The bike held, but the center stand's prongs were firmly embedded in gravel.   It was a bit of a chore getting that center stand up and the bike back onto the road.   Plus, there's getting the gloves off, finding the phone/camera, finding the spot where I won't get run over to take the picture, etc..

That Insta360 camera is high on my list for purchase, to take "hands free" pictures, and NOT miss that moment.

Compared to Fridays enjoyable ride with John, this morning’s ride was rather sh!tty.

I dunno, you seem like a pretty nice guy, but that's a horrible comment to say about your pillion rider.  Maybe "homely", or "good personality", but "shi!ty"?  That's beyond the pale, buddy.  🤣🤣🤣😎

1st ride of the season, high 58.  Bend, OR, known as a mountain resort town typical of the West, also has a quiet rural vibe just 5 miles east of city limits.

Sunny and 40's. Time to take the R1200RT out for a trip up the lakeshore. Stops at the beach at Duck Lake State Park, Medbury Park in Montague and a view of the White Lake Lighthouse, the Little Sable Point Lighthouse at Silver Lake SP, and the Pentwater channel and Mears SP. image.thumb.jpeg.d4b6d1cd4a843d6ca87a8b1cce0bc3a7.jpegimage.thumb.jpeg.8f48b37ea37682549b0daf517dfb3ad9.jpeg

Hot damn!  You actually DO ride in Alabama.  I just thought ya sold off your RT, gave up riding altogether in exchange for drinking Mint Julips while cooling off in your swimmin' pool

Who knew?

Looks like you had some fun, and made some new riding partner-friends, too?  👍😁

Meanwhile, it was 23F on the way to taking my wife to work this morning.  It was 35F by the time we got over to Post Falls 10 minutes later.  I gotta talk to the Major Mayor about turning off the winter air conditioning.  🙄  The lake is still freakin' solid ice, but most of the snow is gone.   Never seen that happen.  The temps are hitting the 50's now.

Should look like that here, pretty soon.

Monday was rainless, mostly, and it being one of my two designated “ride” days, and with another atmospheric river scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday I looked at the state and county sites and saw Angeles Crest and Angeles Forest and Big Tujunga were open for the first time in weeks. Woohoo!  Time to ride.

Sooooo on Jan 2nd I was hit (tapped) from behind while in stop and go traffic on I-75. The bike was pushed forward and fell to the right while it was moving in that direction.  Unfortunately I repeated an earlier in life mistake and tried to use my leg as a prop for the bike, which didn't work out so well. It's a sprain so far with X-rays showing no broken bones and an MRI scheduled for later this week.  I'm walking ok now but I'm still not at 100%.  The bike had the taillight assembly damaged, but that was about it.

Fast forward to this past weekend.  It was a gorgeous 64 degrees out. I've replaced the taillight assembly and the bike is in good working order.  My knee was well enough that I thought I would give it a shot and get out on the bike again. It was a short 20 minute ride, but it felt really good. :)  Enjoy your rides while you can. You never know when life will take a left turn and your rides will be something from your past.

Thanks Richard!  I dumped the OEM tires and put car tires on it (it's a thing), so am working with pressures to suit my riding.  The thing's quite fun, but not 2 wheels of course.

I took  a four day "weekend" to ride the Big Bend area of Texas with members of the Austin BMW motorcycle club. Ridiing and weather  was good except for high wind gusts one day. I now have 1181 miles on my ten day old GS.

Crystal lake at the top of Azusa cyn was beautiful today. Lots of water in the canyon and lots of snow on top. And the chili was outstanding as always. The forest service shack was barely visible and the picnic tables were under piles of snow, I think.

Just LOVE those pictures of people trying to pretend that they're in Northern Idaho, or somethin'.  🤣🤣🤣

My wife and I just drove back up here from Sacramento, taking the I5 via Portland route because central Oregon (HWY 67 through Bend) was under snow and ice alerts.  I carefully mapped out our drive to avoid any severe weather (other than rain, and the traffic HELL around Portland that a little bit of rain seemed to cause).  By the time I hit Washington through Kennewick, I figured I was home free, in cruise mode after about 15 hours on the road.   45 minutes outside Spokane, we started to get some icy rain.  I thought "Hmmm", then looked over at the car's thermometer and yep, sure enough, the temps had dropped about 6 degrees in 15 minutes, down to freezing.  "So, yeah, we may get a little bit of early spring hail, ho hum", and I kept on going.  5 minutes later, the sleet had definitely turned into real, live, snow, and then I was thinking "Oh, that's cute, Spring snow in Washington (state), but the ground and pavement are warm with daytime temps being in the high 40's and low 50's, so well, it's just a nice distraction after one heck of a long drive."   15 minutes later, and I'm in a freakin' blizzard, white-out visibility, with inches of snow rapidly accumulating, the road turning to ice, cars and truck slowing down to 5mph to 15 mph, and my front wheel drive Ford Edge now sans snow tires and with the all season radials, is fish tailing and trying to slide sideways. "Stupid *@#$#**! Northwest weather ... grrrrr".  😡

It was only about 40 minutes of pretty severe weather, and cleared up as we got out of the foothills and down into the city, but it wasn't that much fun while driving tired.  I had emergency snow cables for the car, but didn't have boots, so mounting them would have been a real pain.

Anyhow, just another little tale of recent woe spurred by your pictures of mountain snow.  Looks like ya had a beautiful ride!  👍🍻

Local group ride up Azusa Canyon to Crystal Lake campgrounds.  With all the rain and snow we've gotten, everything is green and the reservoirs are full.  Definitely worth the ride if you're in Socal, but it'll probably be packed on the weekends.
