Since Larry is in the city this week, I thought I would go back out to the back country here. We went on a 12+ mile hike Saturday. It was glorious out there but no cabs.

Longest hike for me in a long time. The sticks make a world of difference out there.

If you look close you can see snow on the top of the mountain in the background.

It's Ewell Davenport. (pronounced like yule)

I will answer to most anything though.

Couldn't help recognizing the round barn as I have gone by it many many times. An old logger I worked with summers while going to college had a saying about that barn which doesn't bear repeating here but which has caused it to stick in my mind's eye.

I will have to take that route by bike, when going by car I usually take the Poodle Creek cut-off and miss the barn.

This is an awesome site.

I have learned a lot about my RSL and how to maintain it from the RS owners site on bikers oracle and check it almost daily. This site, however, has shown itself to be a very real community. Witness the way TallPaul went out of his way to help a fellow rider.

The technical discussions are very relevant to my model of bmw but the stories, photos, and sharing of kowledge are what have me coming back again and again.

I look forward to meeting some of you.

Ice Climbers

These were taken at the junction of the road to Banff and Lake Minnewanka, Banff National Park. I thought you all would enjoy this…….

Here is a wide shot to give some scale. The mountain peak in the background is probably between 8000 to 9000 feet.

This is a zoom shot (200mm c/w 1.4 converter).

Here is a crop to show the ice climbers. Take a look and you can see the climbing rope on the guy (top dead centre)

Took a visitor from Oregan on a southern AZ loop this weekend.

Caught these fellas heading to the barn again:

Well it's still Monday so here is one more.

Taken just south of Canmore, Alberta. I used a LED flashlight with a blue filter to light up the large piece of ice.

This was taken just south of Canmore, Alberta. The online version of this shot is a lot darker, the full version is brilliant white and crisp.

Yesterday I visited the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum near Dulles airport.

The B71 always looks like scary science fiction to me:

In this little plane I did most (not really much) of my flying. Globe Swift. Side-by-side two seater, all metal, retractable wheels, tail dragger. Very modern for 1950. A little fighter plane, but with original 100 HP, modified to 140.

Tough to get the right POV since this is a World Heritage Site and you can not go off of the trails.

Very nice gentlemen.......

I got a nice surprise this weekend, Mrs Whip found an old SD card that I had never seen before, filled with pix from past adventures.

Must be on the way to see Francois in Florida.

The best pic of all.....my brother in-law being attacked by a Zebra at a Wild Life Park.

Mrs. Whip went for the camera ......just like I taught her.

Errrmmm.... what in the world are 'Hippo Hands' ?????

Hippo Hands have been around, in one fashion or another, since the early `80's

Actually, Craig Vetter designed the original Hippo Hands in 1971. My Dad had a pair in his R69US, & I had them on my R75.

Bulky & cumbersome to be sure. But since heated grips were not yet invented, they were a blessing on really cold days.

Thanks, I see now !

I remember people had those sort of 'mittens' on their bicycles in this country, back in the '50's .... nothing's ever new, is it ? :)

Wow!

Edit, no "Wow!" isn't enough.... That shot really rocks, the wide angle, perfect focus, beautiful definition in the water flow, and yet smooth cotton candy effect, the lighting. That's just 100% there, that is. Perfection.
