Well, Dave come out tomorrow morning and you can add another 300 miles to your weekend total. :4323:

Let's go a little west and find lunch. You have to keep that fuel rotated in your tank.

Well Ok.

It's been ten years but in my memory when one comes over the hill after coming up Logan Canyon, the view of Bear Lake is incomparable.

Want to discuss your desire for taking photos of bike posed in pecular places......? hee hee

In posting here you have come to a place where we can discuss how that is a good recreational activity.

Yes!  Last year it stuck around all summer which meant I didn’t have to use a fan while sleeping for the first time in, ummm, forever. 😀

Needed to get a few miles in on the bike so I can get service and tires done before the 6K UN trip. Topaz Lodge (a previous UN location) seemed like a good almost 1k overnight ride to do it. The June gloom helped keep things cool riding up the 395 thru the desert.

Made a stop at Bodie Ghost Town.

The paved 10 mile portion of the road to Bodie.

Where the pavement ends and the final 3 miles of dirt to get there begins.

The other night on a quiet farm road.  Popped up over a  rail crossing on top of a crest and this just felt like it needed a picture.

Yup. Well, more accurately, 'again' rather than 'still', I was off scoots for about 10 years.  I got off shortly after Carrie was born for various reasons, including a changing risk tolerance from being a 'daddy'.  Like so many others, I got the itch big time during COVID lockdown and Carrie is old enough at this point that I was confident that she and Patti could easily make it through if God forbid something happened to me on a moto. Patti gave me the nod so I picked up the Duc a tick over a year ago, about the same time that I started hanging around here again.

My riding is somewhat different now for various reasons, but it is more fulfilling in a number of regards. It was a bit like coming back home tbh.

My story is somewhat similar, but I'll try to do shorthand (or this post will be 10 pages long).

Rode dirt bikes growing up, then street in college, and a few years later, in the Navy.

Sold last (street) bike to pay for tickets to see my wife, for our engagement (Manila, PI girl, another long story).

Kids turn 7 and 8 years old, neighbors kids are running around on their little dirt bikes, and kids pop the question to dad.

Wife tells me "We don't ride motorcycles in this family!"

Note to engaged bachelors:  NEVER SELL YOUR LAST MOTORCYCLE BEFORE MARRIAGE.

Kids plead.  I cleverly tell my wife about my young riding days, and "Street bikes are the motorcycles that are killing kids;  No one in my family ever got seriously hurt on a dirt bike, except my cousin to broke a leg running into a tree, and we're desert riding, no trees!".

Second ride out, Mom joins us to watch.  My then 9 yr old son has a head on collision with a barefoot, shirt and shoeless drunk from L.A., and I carry his lifeless-looking-body back to Mama in the pickup.  Looking at her eyes as I approach, I tell myself "Hmm, this might be a tough one on the marriage".  Son survives, broken elbow, deep cut on the bruised shin, he's back up and running a month later.  Mom doesn't recover quite as quickly, but she gets over it.

I sit in California traffic, an hour or more a day, each way to work, day after day after day, until I finally crack, and buy my first Beemer to jump back into street riding (R1150RT-P).

The wife says:  "We don't ride street bikes, street bikes are the motorcycles that are killing kids ....".  My wife's memory was simply amazing, as she quoted every dang thing I said about street riding years before.  🙄😖

SOOooo, I think to myself "This one might be tough on the marriage", and spin the new tale.   "But honey, I'll be riding an RT-Peee, just like ALL the California police officers ride, painted black and white, just like theirs.  Every time I almost died on a street bike in college and the Navy, it was because someone didn't see me.  They will DEFINITELY see me on this thing."   Then I thought to myself, "Hmmm, probably should have left out that thingy about almost dying ..."

Well, by that time, we have a pretty strong marriage, and I've always had a good wife.   Smart wife, too.  She sees through my bullsh*t, but I've already bought the bike, and I'm determined.  She gets over it.  She was speaking to me again in only a couple of weeks.  Maybe six weeks, but it was pretty quick.   "Speaking" was maybe a grunt or two, with those dagger eyes wives can get when husbands bullsh*t fails, ya know what I mean?  🤣😕

Anyhow, eventually, she even started riding 2-up with me.  Took a while, maybe .... I dunno ... a dozen years after I returned to street riding?  Really, it was like no time at all.   A couple of her friends were riding 2-up with their husbands, she wanted to go with them, so  she suddenly popped the question, "Can 'WE' go riding?"   I think I spit up my beer.  Then I knew for sure, it was all gonna be all right.

We finally were, "... a riding family".    (Hmmm, I suppose this should have gone into the "Riding Tales" folder, but this will work here.)

(Oh, I forgot to add one more exciting little detail, one that I anticipated, that sort of rocked the marriage.  My son was 16 yrs old when we went to pick up the RT-P in L.A..  He was excited like I'd never seen him excited.  He knew he was soon going to be riding HIS own street bike, cause dad had burst through the dam called "Mom's concerns.".  Two years later, he'd found a wrecked bike, rebuilt it, of course it wasn't just any ol' bike, it was a "zero to 100 in 4 seconds flat" Yamaha R1. 😡  He promptly dropped it pealing out on wet pavement (glad he got that over with; he always wrecked the "first one", first dirt bike, first car, first motorcycle, then never wrecked again).  Then, he sold that, rebuilt a GSXR.  Nothing gaudy about that.  Mom was thrilled,  She told me so, ...ummm... a couple of months later when we were on speaking terms again.   In fact, my very bright and mechanically minded young son rebuilt about SIX wrecks he bought from a local yard for scrap prices, enough until he finally had his dream bike, a red Ducati.  He had a blast in college running up and down California highways at night at about 160 mph, a fact I found out about WAY later, and ... ahhh .... I don't think is mom knows about, even now.  Man, I hope she never reads this post.   I kind of like speaking with her, and it could be a long, long time before she speaks to me, if she found out.  🙄)

OHHHHH CRAP.  Ok, Ok, so I CAN'T write a short post.  Sorry. :4607:

Wisconsin's Driftless area, home of DART.

The pic I didn't take was two inches of hail accumulation on the road. Saw the storm clouds on my horizon nearing home, so took the opportunity to stop, gas up and wait it out. Good thing, found the hail covered road about ten miles and thirty minutes later. I'd have been right in it on my way home.

If I wouldn’t have been in the thick of the rain I would have stopped for some pictures yesterday.

took the bike out for a nice 400 mile ride from Green Bay to the driftless area. Went as far as soldiers grove before I stopped for a bit and went home.

was nice to get some miles in the saddle. First long ride of the season and of course I get wet. 😒 😂

now the bike needs a wash…c’est la vie! 😁

Not to butt into your guys conversation (oh, heck, yeah I will! 😁), around here, it's not having the bike or still knowing how to ride, that's an issue.  It's be ABLE to ride, as in, having a body so old and/or worn out that riding doesn't kill you, um...., figuratively or literally speaking.  👍

Then again, there are folks like me with failing memory, who can't remember all the 842 different features attached to the handlebars of the Wethead RT's, from ride to ride.   (Where's the starter thingy? What's that wheel for? Where the heck does the key go to start my keyless ride bike? What's a bug and what's a feature on this dang BMW motorcycle? 🙃😂🤣🤣)

We all manage to get 'er done somehow.

🍻👍

I know Bernie likes to take the "long way 'round", but Jacksonville to Springfield to Unrally is interesting.  That should shake loose all the cobwebs.  I'm pondering where along the way new tires will be needed.......  Ride safe, Bernie!

So today I had a breakfast/lunch date with some members of my local club, BMWNEF.  We met at Oarks General Store & Cafe. Of course I was early again, CST, and hungry. I decided to enjoy a nice breakfast and wait for the fellows. Then we rode to Peels Ferry and crossed into Missouri. I did not see any border guards. We did share the ferry with a group of GSA riders from Portugal. They are on the way to Alaska. BA2DC6C7-3D37-4E38-801C-D8313437CADF.thumb.jpeg.9070d1ad2d82b6b9212a35eed22638e8.jpeg6D5BCB4E-C889-46F2-A2BD-6B477060F5B9.thumb.jpeg.015536ce224842e39c266b649a187744.jpeg5857DBF0-A882-4A4B-9A66-778502059A0D.thumb.jpeg.57bb70b78bb58b149927777556f79265.jpeg3BC5935D-9719-4376-A3E4-716181855ACD.thumb.jpeg.d9148bce9f71879f0611fa41a0ca8dfd.jpeg5FDC135A-5D97-4616-8F1D-47BE834581BB.thumb.jpeg.fc277f34d66cd7c47f7509193f8c16e7.jpeg

Gave my son a ride to pick up his new toy.  Something I thought he would never be interested in.  Still some surprises, even in his mid-thirties.

I t seems like YEARS since I last posted here... oh, wait, it HAS been years in fact!! Been lurking ever since the last BMWST meet, up in Montana.

Just recently decided to try and go ride more...... this thread looks like a good opportunity to post a picture of my most recent ride.... on returning from the shooting range I stopped to shoot a picture for you all. We live somewhere in the distance, behind those hills.... 😊😊

I resemble that remark. 🤣   Hadn't been riding (or had a bike) since 2015, and may have been even longer since I posted here, before returning last fall.  (In fact, I forgot my user ID here, eventually figured out the original, and now have two.🙄😖 Can't really merge 'em ...).  Bought my new ride, and ... I may even ride it before the years out.  😕😩

Welcome back.  I recall your posts.  We need ... um... old blood on this site, to supplement the ... ahh.... even older blood?  🙄  Whatever... 😁

Thanks Scott, and welcome back too...... to tell the truth, I DID have a bike, just didn't get to ride it much after 2016. First problems with the injuries (that turned out to be more irritating than thought at first), then the dump China Flu lockup...... and getting on in years doesn't help either. But I have been riding on and off, albeit very few kilometers. And posting here has been down the drain too.... since I mostly posted ride tales. Much of what I communicate nowadays goes to Farcebook I'm afraid......

Anyhoo..... trying not to forget all my old riding buddies here and returning every now and then :)

Hmmm, do we ride to eat, or eat to ride?

Ever does that philosophical question stump me.  🤣

It depends on the mileage you do. The further you ride, the more you can eat, or the more often you can eat. 🤣🤣🤣🏍🏍🛵:bike:
