Anybody go for ride today? Got Pictures?

77 degree yesterday in Savannah so seemed obligatory to ride a while. This is the Talmadge Bridge over the Savannah River leading into South Carolina.  Savannah has some great history and worth a visit, especially during the winter months.

Bridges are always a good thing, even the slick ones in the Yukon and Alaska.

With no precipitation since December, I thought it was time to take a little scoot on an about 50 mile loop near my house.  With temperatures in the high 40’s to low 50’s, I wasn’t concerned about any ice.

The loop takes me out into Diamond Valley where the devastation of last summer’s Tamarack and Caldor Fires were plainly seen.  A stop in Woodfords to check some older lottery tickets, (no winners) and a stop in Genoa for a sandwich finish the ride.

Spring continues to Sprung here in SoCal, but still a bit nippy overnight.

The air over the Santa Monica has been clear thanks to the persistent Santa Ana winds.

Circled in red is (I Believe) Santa Barbara Island (part of the Chanel Islands).

I haven't been riding much lately. It's been too cold to ride outside of the valley St. George sits in. Today was the first warmish day in a couple of months.

On the east side of Zion at 6200'.

South of Zion near Kanab.

Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park; pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

Same here in No. Nevada.  It's still around 17-22 degrees overnight, but it does warm up into the low 50's.  I try not to get going before 11, as that usually takes care of any unseen ice.

Chris K, Lowndes, and I took a short ride up to Ellijay for late breakfast at the Corner Stone Cafe. Great food, great riding, and great companionship!

It was the "shorter" route, which afforded us some time for a photo-op.  GASP!   I know.

Waiting for the coffee shop to open. Tested the Cyclops LED conversion, which is a success.

After coffee a friend and I rode the longer way to Mayo, FL and had brunch/lunch at The Hornets Cafe.

Then we rode back to Jax, FL. Sorry no food pictures or scenery pictures, since most of the Florida mountains have been relocated.

Apple fritter.  Yeah, interesting breakfast special: fritter, scrambled eggs w/cheese, and fruit cup.  Went great with my coffee.   Oh, my.

Was going to guess a fritter but yeah, that seems like a strange combo. My friend does appreciate that info though! :spittake: Ellijay, hmm. :5146:

Yeah, Ellijay is a big apple area.  We drove past orchards, all picked clean, and apple "packing houses" all closed down for the season, but everywhere was the distinct sweet smell of fermenting apples.  By the time we got to The Cornerstone that fritter was lookin good!!

After I split off from Chris K and wbwcos6 to head home I realized it was only 2 PM and I still had a full tank, so a little detour was in order.  Headed to Suches by some new backroads to see a man about a Guzzi.  I mean, it was a beautiful day for a ride here, why waste it??  Got there and he and one other guy were the only ones left.  We finished discussing his Guzzi and the V50 that was offered to me in Cedar Key and shadows were long.  Had to hurry.  HAD to.

Enterprise, UTAH.  But thanks for playing.  Johnny, tell our parting contestant about their consolation prize.

As there's a 6100' pass between where I took the picture and Enterprise it would be a stretch to say I was in Enterprise. Enterprise itself has two gas pumps so it has that going for it. So tell me about your broken mouse button...

The site of the Mountain Meadows Massacre is a few miles to the right in my picture. I've never heard anyone in St. George talk about it. I once told a neighbor that I'd stopped and visited the monument. He made sure his kids didn't hear what I said...

Weather looks a little menacing.

I'm jealous that you're riding. Menacing weather here means blizzard conditions for the next couple months.

Looking east at Kanarraville, Utah which is  30 miles north and 3,000 feet higher than home. I-15 runs across the middle of the picture, though it can't be seen.

Virginia had a cold and snowy January and February has been very warm with lots of days in the 60's and even the 70's.  It is like April or May weather.

I got out yesterday for a nice 250 mile ride up to the mountains.

Well unfortunately Spring is about to transition to Simmer here in SoCal so today I captured as much of the glorious Santa Monica beauty as I could.

In this image I had to tilt my phone in order to capture this wide image.

(A) is Castro Peak which has radio transmitting towers & was the location of a daring LAFD Air Operations rescue during the 2018 Woosley Fire.....

(B) is the approx location of the remote MASH filming location in Malibu State Park

(C) is Lady Face Mountain

(D) is the approximate location of the tragic crash of the helicopter that took the life of Kobe Bryant & 8 other souls.

Very cool . Pittsburgh has quite a few rock walls like that on the highways. When they would freeze up, people would put different colors of food die in 5 gallon buckets and pour them on the ice from the top. Always gave a splash of color for the driving experience.

I spent a lot of time exploring the Santa Monica’s as an adolescent nearly 50 yrs ago so I know a bit about them.

A few yrs ago, a AT-6 crashed on the 101 freeway causing a major traffic nightmare.
I always check Sigalert.com before heading home so I took the backroads.
This took me past a nice off-road area & I couldn’t resist it’s invite to climb up a hill.
I stoped to admire my surroundings & to my dismay saw that there was quite a flow of cars on the asphalt road below that I thought I had to myself.
It took me half a lifetime to know these roads yet today it’s over-run what’s up?????

Yep, there’s an app for that:dopeslap:
