Went for a ride today.  Went looking for some heated gloves.  Struck out but got a nice ride in before the ice storm hits here tonight and tomorrow.  Probably should have stopped and got bread and milk.

If I remember correctly, back in 1994 when I used to teach cliff assault (rock climbing), we'd use the Henry Clay Iron Furnace to teach students the basics of using protection (cams, nuts, stoppers, etc).  Short furnace, so if they fell, they wouldn't(shouldn't) get hurt too bad (that was the joke anyway).  I'd climb up, put a #1 nut in a crack, tie off, payout about five feet of rope, then, to instill a bit of confidence that the gear does work, I'd bound off, a nice 10ft fall.  If set correctly, the nut would hold, and I'd have a bit of a dynamic bungee effect.  It's kinda loopy, 'cause the #1 ain't designed for that type of drop force, I think the force we were putting on those nuts was four or five times its rated strength.

After a day at the furnace, students climbing, we'd head over to Coopers Rock, they have a nice climbing and bouldering area to utilize.

Haven't seen one of those furnaces in a long, long time.

Nice photo and glad it was a non-event.  My sister lives in Huntington Beach, so I was watching with her last night......having gone from no weather science/warnings to today's relative preciseness of forecasting, I appreciate early warnings of major events.  Many times I prepared for hurricanes on the gulf coast and snow storms in Colorado....always glad to have the warnings.

Dispite thye "Indy" in the name, I thought maybe you from furtehr south thaN Indinapolus

I checked the coordinates, for others info: it is s.e. of Inidnapolos maybe half way to Cinci.

Man, that overcast sky looked about the same as has been here recently, and I suspect the temperatures were not much different. ALthough THurday was in mid 30s.

Anyway, impressive that you guys got out for a ride.

So the other folks there thought itwas good the have bailbondmans nubmer availaible since you were there.... sounds like the events of the day didnt envolve any law enforement encounters.

Just a lunch ride, so we went over the hills and through the woods - lol. We took a somewhat more direct route home. No issues with LEO, this time of year there are plenty of potential road hazards - sand, mud from fields, ice, etc - that we mainly just ease along. Yes, the overcast sky .... very familiar with that up your way! I think it'd be rough to see that day after day after day. Unless I was on a snowmobile ;)

That may be a deformity, you might wanna have your regular physician refer you to a specialist to have that checked out, it could be something bad.

I was going to ask for the GPS coordinates, but nevermind. I'm sure I'll find it on my own after a big rain! :ohboy:

Rode up to the north Georgia mountains yesterday (Sunday), the day after the big freeze in the east.  Zero clouds, crisp, clean air, almost no traffic, and no leaves to spoil the views.  The area is about 10 miles from the '22 START rendezvous in Blairsville for those interested.  Had to be careful in places because of all the gravel dumped on the icy roads a day or two before.  Otherwise it was SPECTACULAR!!  Wish I was smart enough to figure out how to post a vid.

I got out for a while today too.  No spectacular scenery but did have a bit of good luck.

That nail did not cause any loss of air, hence the ‘good luck’.

Redman,

Come on down to START!!  I'll show you around TWO myself.

TWO, or as Willian correctly states, "TWOS" now (It's been known as TWO for 20 or so years), is a rather unique establishment.  It's a campground with cabins and rooms (upstairs in the red & white lodge), a very good resturant with TV and couches with motorcycle magazines everywhere, and meeting place and hangout for everything two (or three) wheeled, but 98% motorcycles.  The third owner is a dirt bike rider himself (and a very nice guy) and has invested heavily in it, building cabins, BIG new bathhouse, lodge renovations, paved parking lot, plus utility and grounds imporvements.  It's ALWAYS neat as a pin, grass cut and NO trash.

On a nice weekend there the parking lot will be wedged with bikes of all types and overflowing into the grass all around, Groms to choppers, brand new to ancient.  People sitting on the porch in the rockers laughing and talking, people standing on the porch, in the yard, among the bikes, in line for food, and constantly coming and going.  I've met people from England, South Africa, Australia, plus all over the US.  It's one of those places where everyone is always in their best mood and behavior.

There are only three roads in and out of Suches and all three are GREAT.  GA 60 goes straight thru and 180 starts there.  There's a gas station/general store on the corner and a school.  That's it, and it's perfect.

I think it was a Ducati rally that weekend:

image.thumb.png.dd171624f8946d133d512fde0e9f57ed.png

I thought this was a spoof when I first saw it, chin fairing, lowered bars, number plated, taped headlight.  It's not.  He says sport bike riders get really annoyed when he passes them in the mountains.  Tops out at 98, tho.

Welp.... I must say

..I did make the mistake of taking the GS on gravel today. It started innocently enough, I rode the GS in 'the back way' of a State Forest - which is hilly and gravel. I've done that road several times on my RT. But since the GS and I found ourselves feeling at home on the gravel and broken pavement, we explored the forest roads together till I ran out of time and needed to get for home.

I don't know what this means exactly :90:, I'd planned to take the RT today. And it's still my go to. :revit:

:java::whistle:

And very glad your didn't get a flat tire! That's Clean Living!

It’s a good thing he got the black GS! ;) All the  tricolors are preprogrammed to find the Starbucks! :classic_biggrin:

Sweet look'n GS there Mr. Dave...

It should suit you well in your travels for the unknown!!

Particularly, the roads you 'liked' to take the on the RT

I have a minds eye image of you riding the river/lake road where you took a bath.   where is that photo...

@LBump  Yes..... That's what concerns me! I seemed to find plenty of 'adventures' on the RT without much effort. :ohboy: One can only imagine what kind of trouble I'll find myself in on this contraption. :old:

On watching this again just now, I STILL laugh out loud!! That's negative 10 for (riding) technique - as illustrated in the second video.

Got out for a few hour ride today. This is Beaufort Inlet. About 3 miles from here they are diving on the Queen Ann’s Revenge. This was Blackbeard’s boat that he scuttled. They are retrieving artifacts from it and putting them in a local museum
