bmweerman
Late last year Patti and I set out to visit the Mount Wilson Observatory. We made it up the Angeles Crest Highway but crashed on the road up to the observatory. So some months late now we tried again...and this time made it. We got there in time for one of the free summer guided tours and the experience was so rich it is impossible to describe here but thought I would share a few pix. One must of course brave the obligitory Los Angeles Super Slab to start the journey Things start getting better here.... And the follow few from the pillion seat... From the top of Mt Wilson Los Angeles recieives all its broadcasting...this has nothing to do with the observatory...but these are some damn impressive antenna farms. A distant view of the 100 inch Hooker telescope Climbing into the observaton deck Following are some pics I mangaged to get inside...this is still a working instrument ....you cant really see it but in the upper left of a couple of the pictures is an old woodend chair then Edwin Hubble himself was supposed to have used. I'm so out of energy right now, but I'll post the rest of the series later...hope you enjoy. heres some usefule links www.mtwilson.edu www.astro.ucla.edu/~obs www.chara.gsu.edu Link to comment
