GilP
New to this site, hi everyone! I have two 2003 GS, one for touring and one that is stripped down to a scambler style for ripping around, on and off road. the scrambler has aprx 115K km on it, and i'm thinking of swapping a 2002 RT single spark motor into it....it has 40k less miles and more hp. Does anyone know of any fitment issues to frame and suspension and ......? I already have the motor...actually a full parts bike in bins. Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers Link to comment

Cheers Morning GilP The basic answer is yes, but that yes is with a caution. The 2002 RT engine is definitely a single spark engine. Is your 2003 1150GS motorcycle a single spark or a dual spark? If you are wanting to swap a single spark engine into dual spark motorcycle then the basic engine will fit BUT it isn't easy getting the fueling electronics to match as the fueling computer & main wire harnesses are different. You might also run into a slight problem if your GS is using an aftermarket bash plate (skid plate) as the RT engine might not be threaded for certain attachments. Link to comment
GilP
The Gs IS a dual spark , and I figured I'd have to do the computer as well. Are you saying the whole wiring harness would also have to be changed? Guess I could always go to carburetors and skip the motronic? I'll have to look in my bins, but good chance I have the Rt computer....plug and play? Is the fuel pump the same? Not to worried about the skid plate...probably make a custom one. I like the solid 10mm plates they had on the Dakar Beemer! Here is my GS on a recent trip to the Gasper peninsula in Quebec. Very little off roading on that trip....but we usually try and spend as much time as possible off road. Thanks for your help! Link to comment

Afternoon GilP Yes, main wire harness is different, plus some other fueling controls. You can't easily go to carbs as the 1150 engine doesn't have an ignition distributor or any sort of basic ignition advance (that is all handled inside the Motronic fueling computer). Link to comment
