beemer2000
With all the discusions of spline failures, what is the interval recommened by BMW for spline lubes on a K75 or K100? I know one bike that went well over 100K without clutch spline lube (only the rear was lubed when changing tires). As long as shifting up or down isn't a problem is this a sign that everything is healthy? Or is it a sleeping dog ready to bite you in the pocket book? Link to comment
Paul Mihalka
For K75 and K100 bikes the BMW recommendation was every 40K miles. On these bikes the critical spline is between the drive shaft and the rear drive. It is easy to do, but doing it at every tire change is a pain. When I had my K75 bikes ('86 K75 200K miles, '92 K75RT 130K miles) I had a fill and drain hole drilled/tapped in the rear drive close to the joint and put 100cc gear oil in it. No more spline wear.
