j1016
I would like to mount my cell phone (Google Pixel 2XL) on my R1200RT so that I can use google maps when I drive. I was wondering what experiences some of you have had doing this and if you have any recommendations for me to look at. Thanks for your suggestions, JR Link to comment
alexvtr
On my hexhead, I replaced one of the 4 bolts of one of the handlebars with one of these: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32963499001.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.5fa84c4ducrHOR And then, I could easily mount one of these RAM knockoffs: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32799606590.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.5fa84c4ducrHOR Extremely cheap setup that's proven very reliable and sturdy, even in the worst conditions. Oldrider51
You might check out this website for a mount, www.techmounts.com. I have used several of their mounts for GPS and radar detector. They are very well made here in the US, specifically in Florida. If you need help just call them as they have always been very helpful to me. Link to comment
j1016
Perfect! I really like their center-mount system. And I like that I can call them for advice! Thanks for the info. J Link to comment
MBrockman5
I've had a good experience with the RAM X-Grip XL. I have it mounted on the clutch reservoir. Having it on the left side makes it handy for nav/music/comm. control (albeit, smartly/safely).... Link to comment
Indy Dave
On my Hexhead, I went with the X Brace mounted to a ram mount that attached to the brake fluid reservoir. Here's the mount held above the reservoir: And the X Brace: And a shot of the bike with phone mounted: You can also see another option here - note on the left I have another ram ball mount for my GPS. For this, I had a ram ball with a bolt going through it - similar to the one linked in the first comment - except mine was using the horizontal bolt that secures the switch cluster to the handlebars. Here's the ram mount part: https://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-367U And the horizontal screw show here without the mount. On my camhead, I'm using a quad lock - https://www.quadlockcase.com/ - and I like it very much. It's mounted in a similar fashion as my GPS was on the hexhead - with a ram ball utilizing the horizontal handlebar screw.. Here it is without the phone mounted: Link to comment

The set with the arm and mount is cheaper for sure, but you can get the ball mount set, like the second link, actually from Ram or a legit re-seller, for about the same price as the knockoff. I have used a couple/few of those sets and they work well. I’ve also used the x-grip but not for a few years as I’ve moved on to other things that don’t require two hands AND that hold the device still/don’t rotate in use. Link to comment
j1016
Thanks for the suggestions. Ideally, I'd like a mount that puts the cell phone in a place where I can see it when I mount my tank bag. Maybe the horizonal screw with a ram mount might be the ticket! Link to comment
large-stache
I have the RAM X-grip Large mount, I put it on my homemade dash along with a knock off GoPro on a RAM mount. The mount is easy to use and works well. I suggest using the rubber safety strap, I didn't one time, and a nasty cattle guard sent the phone for an unauthorized flight. Link to comment
j1016
Good advice on the rubber safety strap. Unauthorized flights are not a good thing! Thanks. Link to comment

I mentioned I’d moved on from the ram x earlier, and what I use now is a Perfect Squeeze. It will hold about any phone in any case without need of a tether, you can use it one handed, and it’s made here. https://shop-hondogarage.com/collections/phone-mounting-systems-motorcycle I’ve been using one a couple/few years now and never had a phone slip - thousands of miles, lots of it on gravel roads and crappy city streets and over countless cattle guards. MBrockman5
Something that szurszewski mentioned that I've been wondering.... I've noticed that my RAM X-Grip seems to rotate/tilt side to side while I'm riding. Is there a way to fix that, or is that pretty much how that specific mount is? Link to comment
