BMWRAT Posted April 27, 2006 Share Posted April 27, 2006 I have had my new R 1200RT about 2 months now and all of a sudden I get the ERW warning when turning on the key. This locks out the starter. I have used both normal keys as well as the plastic emergency key, same problem. If I try several times I have been able to get it started. Before taking it in for service I wonder if anyone else has had this problem and if it might be battery related. Link to comment
crashtap Posted April 27, 2006 Share Posted April 27, 2006 First question to eliminate possible cause: is there another car key that might have a chip in it anywhere near your bike key? This can confuse the situation and cause a lock-out. Link to comment

Hiawatha Posted April 28, 2006 Share Posted April 28, 2006 My 2005 R1200ST was doing the EWS thing and a few other oddities. Turned out to be low battery. Low current/volts(?) seems to play havoc with the computer; all kinds of gremlins appear. There are some issues with some of the batteries and I think there was an issue with some models drawing juice while off and lowering the battery. Link to comment
