Cappra
New owner of an 05 RT, is the air cleaner easily accessible or do you have half the bike apart? Link to comment

Afternoon Cappra Not 1/2 the bike, more like 1/4 of the bike. Upper tank rail & R/H side Tupperware needs to come off as well as remove the glove box cover. (careful that you don't pull the R/H side throttle cable out of it's location) . Also be mindful of the temperature sensor (if yours has been moved to the front) as that is easy to damage if you don't unclip it. Link to comment
Hati
You will need a T25 torx screwdriver for that. With practice you can remove the panels (both sides ready for any work) under two minutes. Link to comment
EvilTwin
This is what it looks like once you pull off the right side tupperware. Its the longish black plastic tube. Once you get to this level, its pretty easy access. Link to comment
Cappra
Thanks everyone, replaced the filter yesterday. Not the original owner but it looked like the original filter with 34k on the clock. What's typical mileage for a stock filter? I replaced with a K&N. Link to comment

Afternoon Cappra There is no typical mileage (just BMW suggested mileage) as it DEPENDS on how clean the air is that is going through the air filter. It also depends on how many cubic feet of air that goes through the filter per mile traveled. If the bike is ridden in very clean air then the filter will go many/many miles between changes. On the other hand if bike is ridden in very dirty conditions (like on dry loose dirt or sand roads, or especially behind other bikes on dirty roads ) then the filter will need replacing much earlier.
