MBrockman5
- I wanted to get an accessory dash shelf for my 07 RT, but between prices and availability, I figured I'd just make my own and see what I could do. - I used a sheet of Kydex and formed it to the shape of my dash and used the existing screws with some rubber washers on both sides and rubber padding between the Kydex and the dash. - I mounted/bolted my Escort RD to the dash using a little mount I made from an old TomTom suction mount and hardwired it to rear aux. power at the passenger seat. (Don't mind the background mess. My garage is in the middle of an organizational crisis...) Link to comment

MBrockman5
I also added the mount for my GoPro. Link to comment
Rougarou
What about extended parking in the sun,.....you think any warping will occur? What about winter,.....cracking in the low temps? I believe Kydex is durable, but some considerations to be made. Either way, excellent idea and if proves to be durable weather-wise, ya might just have a business to start Link to comment
large-stache
Nice shelf. I like DIY projects. I built a mount out of aluminum that attaches to those screws also. It holds the GPS and an action camera. I have noticed quite a bit of shaking in the camera footage, YMMV. Link to comment
MBrockman5
Same here. I was pretty excited and I know I'm in the right direction, but it's way too bouncy to be useable. I think I'm eventually either going to use thicker Kydex (0.125 vs. 0.08), Carbon Fiber, or something else. Hopefully I can find a company that still makes one that I can buy. Link to comment
EvilTwin
I like Kydex, used it for a sunshield on a GPS that I use on a different bike. I guess it could be a bit floppy. Could you try putting some aluminum bar stock underneath it to stiffen it up? Even a flat bar that is 1/8 or 1/4 is easily bent to shape. You could either pop rivet it or possibly use some short screws where only the head shows. This was my one and only project with it, so far it works well: Link to comment
Kerry in Mpls
I don't think I have ever seen a M/C tach that increases in the CCW direction. What bike is that? Link to comment
