MotoNews
Published in: Gear If you are on the hunt for a quality riding suit that won’t break the bank, take a close look at the newly released Dakar jacket and pants from Weise. The British designers at Weise have created functional, yet stylish gear backed by a two-year “No Quibble” warranty. The Weise Dakar jacket features 600-denier polyester outer construction, and comes with a removable 120-gram quilted thermal lining and a removable waterproof breathable lining, allowing you to wear this gear all four seasons. The jacket has a removable winter neck guard that is a bonus when the weather turns cold and you want to make sure that no skin is left bare and exposed to the elements. There are two adjustment straps on each arm and the lower torso to ensure a custom fit. The Dakar jacket has several external and internal pockets for storing smaller items such as your cell phone or wallet while you are on a ride. Additionally, there is a built-in pocket on the back of the jacket that is set up to accommodate a hydration system. I found the large removable rear pocket to be a great place to stash an extra set of gloves, which came in handy after running into some unexpected rain on a recent trip. The air flow through the Weise Dakar jacket is excellent, with ventilation zippers on the arms that run from the cuff to the shoulder, two large vent panels on the front of the jacket, and one large vent panel on the back to really get the air flowing. The vent panel covers conveniently store within the jacket, but the down side of this arrangement is that this is not something you do on the fly or at a stoplight because it takes both hands and a few minutes to open everything up.The Dakar jacket has removable CE-approved armor for the back, shoulder, and elbows, and has both a zipper to connect it to the Dakar pants and a crotch strap to ensure the jacket stays in place, providing you with the correct coverage and protection. The Weise Dakar pants share the same external construction and liner systems as the jacket to provide for all weather/all season riding. The pants have two pockets high on the front and two large cargo pockets on the sides that are actually big enough to use for a little storage space. There are two large vent panels on the front and the covers store just like the panels on the jacket. Well-placed stretch panels at the knees and waist provide for exceptional mobility. I never felt any pulling or binding whether riding on the street or through aggressive off-road terrain. Although the ventilation was good, I would like to see a zipper vent on the back of the legs in a future update, as it would really aid the air flow. The Weise Dakar suit is available in a wide range of sizes and is available in black and black/stone. The jacket and pants both have ample reflective piping as a safety measure to make sure you are seen at night. Make sure you look at their sizing guide because the sizes run much smaller than you would suspect.
