Dobo
Hi All, i seem to have a slow leak on both my tires . I was thinking about using something like "slime" in the tires to try and stop the seepage. any recommendations would be appreciated. T I A Mark. Link to comment
tallman
How long? How bad? Any sign of road hazard? Valve stems? I'd try to determine why... I look at slime as a get you back on the road so you can fix/replace, not as a substitute for diagnosis and cure. YMMV Link to comment
Gravelpounder
Dobo I had a Goldwing with a chronic low front tire pressure. It was a rim leak, I submerged the front tire in a wheal barrel of water and watched very small bubbles form around the rim at the bead. Took about 10 minutes to see them. The fix was to smear the bead with silicon just before the tire was inflated. The shop told me this is caused by scaring the rim during tire changes...not being careful. Link to comment

YMMV hi , its a few pounds a week,no sign of damage to the tires or rims. i will give them a squirt with a spritser bottle of soapy water to try and find the leak, and agree with slime being a temp solution. thanks mark Link to comment

Morning Mark BOTH tires slowly leaking at the same time put up a small red flag for me-- Are you using a SMALL motorcycle sized tire gauge???????? If you are using an automotive tubular type gauge (with number scale that slides out) or large auto gauge then those can let out a pound of more at every tire check. Any chance that your gauge is letting air out at every check making it look like the tires are leaking???? Link to comment

This seems particularly likely if the tires are losing pressure at similar rates - And even more likely if the front tire is losing pressure just a bit faster (lower overall volume meaning a larger percentage lost at each check). In any case, good luck! Link to comment
Dobo
I had not thought about the gage, its not a stick type. i have ordered a BMW digital Gage, it will be interesting to compare the two. it was awkward to get my old gage on the valve stem. thanks mark Link to comment
tallman
This is why I use an air compressor. with a built in gage. I verify the accuracy from time to time. Put on, if air escapes, no biggie, check, add if needed, set. Link to comment
Dobo
New digital gauge made getting an accurate read sooo much easier. front and rear loss is negligible . i put it down to the gauge inaccuracy and loss while trying to check. thanks to all that helped. cheers mark Link to comment
