Primary Ground

Overbyte

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I need to check the primary ground cable connection on my 08 R1200RT.

The cable disappears into a loom on the left side forward of the battery and I can't find the other end. I believe there may be a high resistance connection.

Thank you in advance.

Just do a voltage drop test to check the cable & cable connection resistance.

Put your voltmeter on the 20v DC scale (or lower if your meter has that capability), then put the red lead on the battery (-) post & the black lead on a clean bolt or other clean place of bare metal on the engine case.

Now just crank the engine & see what the voltage drop is. If over a volt then you have some resistance, if over 2 volts then you have definite cable or cable connection resistance issues. (I like to see under .8 volts DC drop max)

OK, Thanks DR.

That has to be easier than trying to find the frame end of the cable.

Evening Overbyte

Lots easier as the block side of the battery (-) cable attaches to the engine block at the left rear of the alternator (not easy to get to)
