After looking around for a good forum to join I think I've found it.

My name is Ed and I'm new here but not to forums at all. I'm an MB tech by trade and found this mecca of knowledge because of a small issue with my newly acquired '95 R1100RS. I have this bike for somewhat sentimental reasons.......I was first introduced to this bike by a shop foreman that passed away a couple of years ago from cancer. He passed the bike to another shop foreman who really enjoyed it but felt it was just a little more than he needed. It now resides in my care and I know Bill will be keeping watch.

This is my first bike with a "sport" riding position. I've always ridden cruisers. I took this bike earlier this year to The BRMC http://www.blueridgemotorcyclecamp.com/

and had a couple of BMW riders walk over and take a look. I normally meet with a group from another forum and we ride for 4-5 days. We went for a ride down RT 209 and I had just as much fun if not more than going to the Dragon. No traffic made a huge difference and it allowed me time to get used to this bike.

Great bike and I look forward to digging through this forum for tips and tricks. Thanks in advance for any questions I may have. Pics once I get it figured out

Ed

Welcome Ed, this is a very nice forum. Congrats on the 1100RS, it's one of the all time great BMW's and hwy. 209 is a like kind road, the two were seemingly made for each other. The first time I rode 209 was on an 11RS and I still haven't forgotten it.

Plus, glad to see you're an MB tech, myself and a few others may have some questions for you too down the road.

Welcome to the board.

The RS is a great bike.

I am not sure where you reside, but if you are somewhere close to Central GA, try to join us for some of the SECFF(South East Comfort Food Finders) lunches we have during the winter month.

It lets you explore some of the area, while meeting like minded folks for lunch.

Are you a member of our local Club?

I look forward to meeting you soon.

Thanks gents!! I'm located just outside of DC in Bethesda Md. I've read a little about the UnRally (more reading to do) and I'll have to see about scheduling that.

I'm also on a Magna/Sabre/Interceptor forum as well and we get together in May every year. I normally head up getting t-shirts and sweat shirts done for the event. Not too sure about this next year, a lot going on and I may have to miss it. I have a soft spot for the 80's V4 bikes, I have an '86 VFR 750 in the man cave that's in pieces waiting for me to finish cleaning/rebuilding and re assembling.

Any MB questions I'll be happy to try and help with :)

Welcome MB_ED.

Or we will just call you Ed!

Glad to have a new member of the family.

Great ride! You picked a good one. If you want to know anything ask away. Knowledgeable people here who don't think any question is a dumb one.

Welcome and thanks for posting! Nice looking bike and awesome that you're able to continue the passion of the original owner. Lots of active riders here from your area - you've come to the right place!

Hi Ed, Good to have you join us. Nice RS and I hope you enjoy the step up from just cruising. I've stayed at the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground which is a great base of operations in the area. I'll also suggest the Mt.Pisgah Inn which is also an awesome base of operations to some great roads with this view from each room's balcony.

Welcome....I am new to this site as well. It seems like a good place to land for Beemers. I am new to BMW and I can testify this is the best bike I have rode. I just traded a Suzuki M109R for my R1200RT. Before that I had a Yamaha FJR. The sport touring bike is my choice by far even though the 109 was an absolute torque monster and fun. I will take handling over torque any day.

Lawnchairboy, Thanks

Allen, I enjoy the ride and performance so far. Handling is out of this world. What part of NC?

Guten Tag... and willkommen... or something like that.

Great bike, and sounds like you are off to a great start. For what it is worth... the name Ed is well-known here. You may encounter a fellow who answers to Edd... hope you enjoy the crowd. A wealth of information and help...

Welcome Ed!

My first bike was an '86 Interceptor. I loved that thing. Nothing makes a sound quite like those gear-driven cams.

Welcome, Ed. It's always good to have a specialist on board who knows the ways of those inscrutable Germans. I'm sure our collective will help you sort out any issues related to your Beemer, though you might get a Benz question tossed at you once in a while. Fair trade!

You're family now.

greiffster, That's a beauty of a VFR!! Mine is all white and I'm going to keep it that way. Going to be a while before it's ready but I'm looking forward to when it is.

EffBee, Oh those Germans!!!! Engineered like no other. Any Benz question sent my way I'll do me very best to answer.

Thank you all for the welcome!!

Hi Ed, my first BMW was a 94 RSL like yours (L being the lower fairing version ) and I loved it! The most epic road trip I took with it was to St. Anthony Newfoundland.

Good luck & enjoy!

Ah, the 80's V4a...had a V65 Saber when I was stationed in Europe! Took her on fantastic 3-week road trip from England through Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany. Monster of a bike!

Sorry, can't comment on that one. I don't really watch a lot of TV and I've never really gotten into F1. ;)
