Needed a belt sander for various applications and decided to build one modeled after one on Youtube. Had to approximate dimensions as no plans were available.

It's a 2"x72" belt and 9" disk sander combo driven by 1hp Marathon motor wired 220v.

It spun up for the 1st time today. Sharpened some blades and it worked perfectly. Still needs final welding as it's only tacked together now, plus some paint and wheels..

Reportedly, belt life of the 72' vs. cost is an advantage. Don't have enough experience yet to know if that's true.

Also, it appears many knife makers (not me) use a much larger contact wheel for hollow grinding blades. Mine's 4" but have seen wheels as large as 12",

The primary use for the sander, aside from sharpening tools, etc. is the band saw and the plasma cutter are not very accurate and having small pieces of steel custom cut is spendy. The sander will help produce truer angle cuts for fit up and welding.
