DrMikey
Can a battery be overcooked by a 60 watt alternator? My six year old sealed battery on my 2003 RT just died, despite being on a battery tender the last 5 days. It was weakening all year, ever since I replaced the used stock alternator with a rebuilt one that puts out 60 watts. I think the regulator would do the job of preventing overcharging, but don't know for sure. Prolly just coincidence. Link to comment
dirtrider
Can a battery be overcooked by a 60 watt alternator? Afternoon DrMikey Sure easily, even a 10 amp alternator can kill a battery (IF) the voltage isn't regulated. Put a volt meter across the battery with the engine running, then revv the engine a little & see if the voltage is staying under 14.3 volts or so. At 6 years old it just sounds like the battery has given it's full life though. Link to comment
