trying to get some history on my bike

Hi,

long shot: my red 02 R1150RT is originally from Michigan. I was told it was owned by a Iron Butt member around Detroit who must have put around 90k on it. I am trying to find out about the history of my bike and was wondering if anyone had an idea how to go about it. I emailed the Iron Butt Organization but was told they can not help.

Take it to your local BMW shop and have them look up the original selling dealer of the bike based on the VIN number. Contact that dealer. While the dealer isn't likely to give you much information about the owner, perhaps the dealer can contact the owner to have them contact you.

You might also contact the BMW Touring Club of Detroit. It's been about ten years since I was associated with them, but there's a chance they'll know who it belonged to.
