Today I traded bikes for a ride with my brother. I have a 2001 BMW R1100RL and my brother has a 1998 BMW K1200RS. I could not find a single thing in common other than the BMW emblem. My R1100R feels like a classic bike very similar to my 1970 Moto Guzzi Ambassador. The K1200RS feels like my Japanese sport touring bikes that I have owned in the past. I forgot just how fast the K1200RS really is. I rolled the throttle slightly in 3rd gear and looked down and realized I was up to 80 MPH (on a back road). Both are great riding bikes but the K1200 was a little to smooth for me and was not as agile as my R1100RL. Either way I love riding both bikes but would not trade my R1100RL for the K1200RS. I will say the transmission on the K1200RS is much better than my R1100RL.

I rode boxers for 35+ years and love them.

In '05 went over to the dark side w/a flying brick.

Never looked back (for long ;) ).

The K1200 RS/GT bricks are  .

YMMV

One thing I will say is I wish my Boxer engine came with the same clutch and transmission as the K1200RS. It shifts like a dream.
