Matthew Miller Posted July 26, 2015 Share Posted July 26, 2015 Today I traded bikes for a ride with my brother. I have a 2001 BMW R1100RL and my brother has a 1998 BMW K1200RS. I could not find a single thing in common other than the BMW emblem. My R1100R feels like a classic bike very similar to my 1970 Moto Guzzi Ambassador. The K1200RS feels like my Japanese sport touring bikes that I have owned in the past. I forgot just how fast the K1200RS really is. I rolled the throttle slightly in 3rd gear and looked down and realized I was up to 80 MPH (on a back road).Both are great riding bikes but the K1200 was a little to smooth for me and was not as agile as my R1100RL. Either way I love riding both bikes but would not trade my R1100RL for the K1200RS. I will say the transmission on the K1200RS is much better than my R1100RL. Link to comment
