OKLAHOMA CITY - Emergency crews closed a number of highways in Oklahoma Thursday morning due to flooding.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) released a list of highway closures across the state as of 11 a.m. Thursday. Officials said they are closely monitoring these highway closures, but cannot estimate how quickly floodwater will recede and allow these highways to reopen.

Even after water levels go down, officials said highways and bridges may have underlying damage that will have to be repaired before they are opened to traffic.

Here's a list of highway closures across the state.

I-35 Corridor

Travel discouraged on I-35 in southern Oklahoma due to multiple closures, traffic detoured Northbound I-35 is closed just south of US-77/Turner Falls (mm 51) in Murray County until further notice due to ongoing cleanup of debris falling onto the highway caused by heavy rain. ODOT crews are assessing the situation and do not currently have an estimate for reopening the highway. Law enforcement is diverting traffic and drivers should follow the detour routes listed below.

Northbound and southbound I-35 is closed between SH-142 in Ardmore and SH-53 in Springer in Carter County due to flooding.

Detour Information

These are the suggested detour routes to avoid the I-35 corridor in southern Oklahoma:

Southbound I-35 traffic should detour to westbound I-44 (going south) in Oklahoma City and continue to Chickasha, then take US-81 south to Duncan and continue to Texas.

Northbound I-35 traffic should detour on eastbound SH-142 in Ardmore to SH-199 and continue east to US-177 in Dickson, then travel north on US-177 to SH-29 back to I-35.

Southbound traffic from northeast Oklahoma and Tulsa area should use southbound US-69 and US-75 to Durant, and continue south to Texas.

Thanks, Kathy, I had seen that, too. There was a big landslide north of Ardmore. Northbound traffic was still closed yesterday. Rocks on the road were gigantic, cliff was still unstable. We can always go through Dallas, but it's slower and not freeway all the way. Maybe there'll be news tomorrow.
