Blue dots of death on Liquid crystal display

A friend has a 2006 K1200GT. A blue dot appeared on the display one day and it is slowly expanding. It is now about the size of a nickel. He believes the whole display will eventually be taken over by the blue. Does anyone know if something can be done to stop the screen from going blue?

 

Next, looking on ebay there are a few instrument clusters for sale, but he is under the impression that the clusters are not interchangeable because the canbus system will not accept a cluster from another motorcycle. Is this true or can you just plug and play with another used cluster. If that is true, I am curious as to why the are being sold.

 

Lastly, is the liquid display by itself removable and interchangeable?
