Al_B
The Un-organizing committee is posting the following information to supplement the overview Camping information attached to the formal registration site. In addition, we'll try to answer any questions or obtain answers if we don't know them right away. The nicest tent camping option we found in the Moscow area is at the Latah County Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds are about 2.5 miles from the Best Western Plus University Inn (BW) where the majority of the UnRally activities are scheduled - see the Google route map on the registration link for the location. Moscow has a couple of 24 hour taxi services if you are camping and plan to imbibe. We will have some taxi business cards at the registration sessions for anybody interested to pick up. Most of the sites at the fairgournds are set up for RV units, but they have a separate grassy tent camping area available if people want to camp there. The rate is $15.00/night for each tent. None of the organizing committee have stayed at this campground. - we're too old and spoiled to sleep on the ground. We took the following pictures to show the tent camping facilities: [/img] Restrooms If participants have pop up or tent trailers, the BW says they will be able to set up in the abandoned movie theatre parking lot directly behind the hotel. The photos posted below give an idea of that area. The area around the old movie theatre (shown in the left portion of the first photo) is paved and varies between almost level to somewhat sloped. We haven't been there at night to see how much traffic goes through the lot. If people decide to stay in this lot, they will want to work out bathroom facilities and shower arrangements with a participant staying in the hotel. If it is useful, we plan to set up other threads with more details and photos about the hotel and the FREE Suite draw, Area Attractions, Routes and Rides, other topics as we think of them or when you ask for them. I think this type of themed information is fantastic and I'd love to see more about any aspect of the rally about which you have time to post. This will be my first UN and I think my wife might even join in, so anything that makes it look fun (I showed her some pictures of the area from an ADV thread the other night, and last night we watched a video of Nigel romping in the parking lot - looks like more and more fun all the time). thanks, josh PS - though Laura is not opposed to camping, given the choice she'd usually opt for indoor lodging, and though they look nice inside, the bunker-esque shot of the "facilities" at the campground will likely cement a hotel room for us. Al_B
I just talked to the fairgrounds Manager Annette Olson to confirm details about the camping set up. Her office hours are 8:30 - 1:00 weekdays so there won't be anybody at the office when campers arrive on the weekend. She said that tent campers should set up on the treed and grassy area between the Commercial Exhibit Building and the Grange Building. The following link is to their Maps page . Note that the grounds map needs to be rotated counterclockwise to get North to the top of the page and align with the other maps. I believe it is the area shown in the upper left portion of the tent camping picture in the first post of this topic. She told me they will leave the restroom in the south-east corner of the Commercial Exhibit Building open as it has the shower facilities and that you can pay for the camping on Monday.
