VisiBillets LED Lights

I’m a big believer in conspicuity. The easier it is to be seen the harder it is for a cager to pull out in front of you (I hope). On my K1200S unless you want to run fork-mounted lights there isn’t much room for auxiliary lighting products. I had a set of compact PIAAs mounted under the air snorkels that drew so much juice that if I was sitting in traffic with them on they would draw down the battery. So I bought a pair of LED replacement bulbs on line and tried to convince myself they really threw of an appreciable amount of light… They didn’t.

At the AIM show in Orlando I ran across Lewis Q. Preston in his booth Electrical Connection http://www.electricalconnection.com/index3.htm. He was showing a new product, VisiBillets. The amount of light these tiny housings put out was amazing. This was the first alternative high power light that I could mount inside the Tupperware and still have enough room for the fender to clear under compression.

The lights themselves are very well made, billet aluminum, solid and well sealed. They are also extremely bright, ridiculously compact and very inexpensive. Lewis and I started chatting and he is clearly a man into his craft and his products. A pair of lights sells for $79.00. I told Lewis he could double the price and it would still be a bargain. Here’s what Lewis said to me. “ Years ago I was in a terrible accident because someone didn’t see me. So if I can help make more riders visible by charging less money that’s what I want to do.” I would have ordered the lights just because I liked his philosophy. But I didn’t. I ordered them because they are small, high quality, very bright and cheap.

They arrived a couple of days ago and I installed them last nightHere’s a link to another forum http://www.i-bmw.com/showthread.php?p=580376&posted=1#post580376 with pictures of the lights that show just how tiny they are and how much light they throw off. I am a big fan of Lewis and VisiBillets. Check them out.

I thought the LED H7 replacements were interesting: http://www.electricalconnection.com/other-lighting/led-hl-h7.htm

I'd like to hear from someone that has used these. I am especially concerned with correctness of the beam pattern and brightness relative to one of the many HID options available. This may be a good option for a high beam, where an HID would be too slow to start.
