tail lights

I have a 2010 R1200RT sometimes when I start it I get the warning light for my tail lights and sure enough I don't have any lights on in the back, then I kill the switch and turn the bike back on and warning lights go away and tail lights are on. Why is this happening? any Ideas? TKS

You don't happen to have LED bulbs there, don't you?

That is a good question.

 

Your tail light is controlled by the ABS computer so it watches the current to the rear tail light.

 

Your problem could be in the rear light bulb or socket/wire connector area or in the how the computer is controlling it.

 

Seeing as you have no light back there at all that would mean both bulbs are out at the same time then would come back on together so that is unlikely.

 

You might start your trouble shooting by making sure the rear light wire harness is plugged together all the way & verify no grounding issues.

 

Can you remember if the brake lights work when the tail lights are out? That might tell us something.
