macx
More out of curiosity than anything - Just measured mine hot, gonna take awhile to cool. (I presume valve clearances are done cold?) Used to hot rod with solid lifter cams back in the 60's - of course the longer the rockers (like my 426 Hemi) the more difference. As short as these are, esp between the contact patch and the valve stem, probly very little diff? We'll see. I can tell right now, tho, that I've got to get some shims for the exhausts. The intakes were still good at 43k miles with the last check at 32k last fall. Tops were both .007" and bottoms .008". (about .18 & .20mm) Exhausts are loose, tho. I wear ear plugs as I don't want to get any more hearing impaired than I already am, and when I took a short slo speed hop in town today without the earplugs actually heard valve clatter - had planned on checking them this weekend, anyway. I work long hours and am living alone at a remote long term temp job so have to do all my own domestics so don't get a whole lot of time to dig into things. ANYWAY - exhausts were all .018", or about .457mm. No wonder! At least they're even. I still marvel at both the simplicity and effectiveness of that design. I'll post probly tomorrow AM what the cold readings are just for S&G's. If I can get them coming so I get them for next weekend, I'll tackle that Sat so I also have time to break out the old Twin Max - had gotten it for my 1150 - and do a tupperware-ectomy. At least shouldn't go too bad, will be the 2nd time. Link to comment
