David R
I am looking at an R1200R as in NEW and RED. I know from the looks of the valve cover its a cam head. I also know the RT came out with DOHC in 2010. BUT go to this web page BMW and it says ONE cam. ****************************************************************** Air/oil-cooled flat twin ('Boxer') 4-stroke engine, one camshaft and four valves per cylinder, central balancer shaft ****************************************************************** Huh? Please clarify. David Link to comment
Paul Mihalka
In 2010 the R1200RT and GS went to the twin cam "camhead", but the R1200R continued with the single cam "hexhead" motor. In 2011 the R1200R also got the "camhead" motor. BMW just forgot to update the website. So what else is new... Link to comment
mneblett
Not the first time that the BMWNA website wasn't up to date. Bottom line, if it has the camhead valve cover, it has to be a camhead under the cover. The hexhead has 4 valve cover bolts. The camhead's valve cover has 2 in different places. In other words, the camhead valve cover won't fit a single-cam hexhead head. Link to comment
rclbaker
David, the red one is not anymore a colour for model year 2013. It now comes in light grey metallic (my bike ), bronze and blue. Rob Link to comment
TheoM
And...the 2012 R1200R is the only camhead (hexhead) that still uses the fuel strip instead of the float mechanism. Link to comment
