Steve Kolenda Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Just returned from a weekend of riding and after washing my 2011 R1200RT, I start it up to drive back into the garage and I have a flashing red triangle accompanied by the oil can icon. Oil level is within a quarter inch of the top of the sight glass. I obviously will not run it with this warning. Any suggestions on determining if this is a bad pressure switch or oil pump?
Danny caddyshack Noonan Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 10-20 years ago, there weren't those sensors...just switches that often didn't work (think Lucas). I'd let it dry and then check it again. If it rattles on start up, might be low OP.

Guest Kakugo Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Try topping the level up. My mother's Mini does it (minus the oil can) when the onboard computer thinks the car is low on oil. Putting oil to the top level is enough to shut it up.
Steve Kolenda Posted August 21, 2012 Author Posted August 21, 2012 After sitting for awhile, light no longer comes on. I suspect a pressure switch problem.

David R Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 No suspecting. Screw a gauge into it to see if its pressure or the switch. Not a thing to mess with. David
