Linz
Hi all. I'm posting this for a friend of mine in California. Bob has a '99 R1100RT. Bob's Gen Light warning came on on the way home last night and the bike got him home (65 miles). The battery is flat this morning indicating (to me at least) that the alternator wasn't charging the battery and had possibly failed. Can other folks here take a stab at what could be wrong other than a failed alternator please? This will give him a base to start problem solving. Any help appreciated, thanks in advance. dirtrider
Evening Linz Anything from a failed alternator belt, to a failed alternator, to a broken wire, to ???? The alternator (charging) light being on means the alternator blue wire tap is at a lower voltage than the battery so --no charging. Link to comment
Linz
Thanks DR, I'll pass it on. It's what I thought it would be. Linz Link to comment
Jim Moore
Every time I've heard of this it's been a shredded alternator belt. Link to comment
Dave Parry
The belt has to be the first thing to look at, Dave. Link to comment
