BrianM
Did a valve check. Used inch feeler gages but converted everything to mm. Can anyone verify my calculations? Intake - .13 to .23 .127 with 5.50 shim, change to 5.45 (2 valves like this) .178 with 5.44 shim, leave alone. .127 with 4.45 shim, change to 5.40 Exhaust - .30 to .40 .014 with 5.27 shim, leave alone .014 with 5.295 shim, leave alone .013 with 5.23 shim, change to 5.20 - worth it? .013 with 5.175 shim, change to 5.15 - worth it? Thanks Link to comment
bobbybob
Something looks wrong with your reported Exhaust valve measurements. MM or in. ?? Exh target range is .30-.40mm, you say they are at .014?? Link to comment
BrianM
Whoops, left the exhaust in inches. Intake - .13 to .23 .127 with 5.50 shim, change to 5.45 (2 valves like this) .178 with 5.44 shim, leave alone. .127 with 4.45 shim, change to 5.40 Exhaust - .30 to .40 .356 with 5.27 shim, leave alone .356 with 5.295 shim, leave alone .330 with 5.23 shim, change to 5.20 - worth it? .330 with 5.175 shim, change to 5.15 - worth it? terryofperry
Brian Two valves were .127 with 5.50 shims and replaced with 5.45 shims to increase clearance by .05. I understand that. One valve was .127 with 4.45 shim and replaced with 5.40 shim. Am I reading it wrong or did that lower the clearance or did you mean replaced with 4.40? Intake - .13 to .23 .127 with 5.50 shim, change to 5.45 (2 valves like this) .178 with 5.44 shim, leave alone. .127 with 4.45 shim, change to 5.40 Just trying to understand so I can do mine. Thanks for posting by the way, I;m trying to learn. Terry Link to comment
bobbybob
After seeing how little (basically none) my valves changed from 6K to 16K miles, I wouldn't worry about the .33 exh clearance. Check them again at the end of the riding season....so easy to do. Bet they haven't changed a bit. Link to comment
