tcurrin
Hello, I know this has been addressed but I've looked and looked and can't find it. Can the ESA shocks be removed from a 2010 R1200RT and replaced with non-ESA Ohlins or other brand without affecting the computer or does something special have to be done to the computer to complete the conversion? Thanks in advance, Tom Link to comment
marcopolo
I can only give you my experience with my 2006 R1200RT. I replaced the ESA struts with Ohlins in 2009. The tech simply unplugged the cable leading to the struts and taped it up out of the way. Nothing whatsoever appears on the bike's display. If a dealer plugs in the BMW diagnostic computer, or you plug in a GS-911, it will detect a fault code, which can easily be deleted. Link to comment
tvguy
I believe it is Ohlins, they will make an ESA shock that will fit your bike. I can get details if you need them. Link to comment
tcurrin
Got a quote from Ohlins for non-ESA replacements, but needed to know if the computer would need something done to it for the conversion. I emailed Klaus at Hyperpro and he responded quickly and provided two options for shocks. I may go with them when funds allow it. Thanks Link to comment
