K1600GT, Sport Tourer or Not?

I traded my K1300S in on a K1600GT that is due by the end of this month and I'm wondering if this would be classified as a sport touring bike. What ya thunk?

There is no fixed definition of these categories. If you are coming from a Harley Ultra it is a sport bike. If you are coming from a S1000RR it is a touring bike.

The bike doesn't define the category.

The rider does.

At the very first El Paseo years ago a rider on a brand new LT went places that involved dirt/gravel/water with big rocks and had the pics to prove it.

Use a GS for slab touring only, it isn't a dual purpose adventure bike.

Use a K1600 for sport touring, it is a sport tourer.

My GT has seen paved, dirt, light gravel, shallow water (with secure base layer) but only in smallish doses.

I use it as a sport touring bike and that's what it is.

Since I'm a bit slow in technical roads it leans toward touring there.

Some other places it might be closer to sport.

Enjoy and please post pics.

I have all to often thought of my K1200RS as an all terrain vehicle and have a few scars on both the bike and me to prove it.

It is a touring bike.

For BMW the last of the K sport touring bikes died with the K1300 series.

My opinion of course...

A well ridden speed triple on a twisty road couldn't shake the angry owl off it's six! ;) Sport!

Ok, so there was some BBQ at the end of said twisty road!
