Main seal failing?

So I think I may be on the cusp of a main seal failure on my K1200RS.

 

I'm getting a small bit of oil running down from between the engine and where the shaft mate. It weeps a little bit and then drips off of the bottom oil reservoir cover.

 

Is this the "infamous" main seal? I've got about 70k miles on it, so it's probably about due.

ps - how much does this repair usually cost?

Does the leak smell like engine oil or gear lube? If the former, then yes, sounds like you are due for a new rear main seal.
