I have a BMW charger (Blue housing, green bottom with the green and red light) Used it for the conventional batteries. Can it be used for the gel battery? If not why not and what in that case can I use safely? Any ideas? Link to comment
catmandoo Posted November 12, 2005 Share Posted November 12, 2005 from what i hear the gels need a special charger to initially charge the battery,but after that as someone here mentioned,the alternator has no idea what kinda battery it's charging so it shouldn't make any difference,i myself am using a vw solar charger to keep my battery charged over the winter. Global_Rider Posted November 13, 2005 Share Posted November 13, 2005 Any automatic battery charger that goes up to 14.4 V maximum with a charge rate of 10% (or less) of the Ah rating of the battery. If it has a float mode, it'll switch to about 13.2V. I use a $29 YUASA 12V, 900 mA, Hot Shot battery maintainer. Link to comment
