HI

I have just installed a Starcom intercom to my r1150rt.

The rider to pillion is no problems at any speed.

But the bike to bike is no where as clear.

We mostly use UHF radios here in Australia in the 476.425 to 477.4 mhz range.

I am woundering if it the radios that are the problem but

they sound fine untill you run them through the starcom.

What radios dose anyone else use.

Im thinking I should have bought a Autocom, then Tom would had all the answers.

Anyone know if that half price sale is coming to Australia

I am sure the microphone and speakers are positioned correctely.

Thanks Jacko

I'm sure you could order from the US or elsewhere and have it sent over. Check out eBay also.

I had the pleasure of working on the west coast(Perth) once upon a time. A wonderful place that. A great country you got there, full of nice people. Enjoy the summer.

P.S. I am an Autocom user. Good gear.

If your transceiver is bike powered you may need to use decoupling isolation transformers in the interface lead between your UHF and intercom. If it’s portable you should not require this.

How have you interfaced the UHF to the intercom?

Try moving the antenna away from the main box and headsets/leads.

Are the UHFs clean on their own, even when near to the bike with engine running?

Are you using PTT or VOX to TX?

Does the intercom suffer interference or other issues when you transmit or receive?

Good luck.

PS I enjoyed 6 weeks in Australia last year; Loved every second. Please check your PM.

Tom thanks for the Reply.

The uhf is battery powered

The interface lead is the one supplied with the kit

The uhf's are clear on there own,but havent tried standing beside the bike with engine running.

I am using a PTT.

I think it just wind noise, but the rider to pillion is real good no wind noise. So its got me,maybe its the radios.

My radio is just a cheap 1/2 watt uniden but the mate has a 5 watt uniden.

Three of us are using Starcoms with battery-power US Kenwood GMRS radios and PTT without problem. We aren't using them as on-bike intercoms, just mixers for B2B and SAT radio or MP3.

Are you powering the radios from the bike? If so, an isolating power lead is required.

An isolator on the starcom power leads may also help - the RF from the radios may be causing some issues on the power-supply side.
