PFP
I recently started hearing an intermittent ping or ticking noise at idle. This is an 04'RT with 10k and using 93 octane. Idle is set at 1050rpm and the bike runs strong and smoothe thru all gears. I question this because my wife's 04 1150R doesn't have this issue. When doing a idle adjustment last week I had the fairings off and didn't hear any abnormal sounds but I can't imagine that the plastic would tick. All fastners are tight and nothing changes when the clutch lever is pulled in. Any ideas are appreciated. Phil Link to comment
Eckhard Grohe
Rocker arm end float???? I blame it for a ticking noise on trailing (decelerating)throttle on my bike. Link to comment
4wheeldog
Virtually impossible to have pre-ignition at idle, especially if it is not present at wide throttle openings. Two possibilities: 1: Cam chain tensioner clicking. If it bothers you, do a search for updated part #s. 2: Throttle body clicking......This can occur at idle. Again, do a search. Neither of these is really more than bothersome noise.......No harm being done. Good Luck! Link to comment
Slartidbartfast
Can not be pinging at idle - possibilities as noted by others. What grade of oil are you using? Does it only do it when hot? Get worse during extended idling? Link to comment
PFP
The tick appears when the engine is at operating temp. Oil weight is 20/50 BMW non synthetic. Thanks . Phil Link to comment
cgdR
The tick appears when the engine is at operating temp. You would benefit without a doubt from the updated left cam chain tensioner. cylinder 11 31 7 688 629 $19.20 piston 11 31 7 656 922 $28.40 gasket 07 11 9 963 308 $0.50 Link to comment
Slartidbartfast
Probably cam chain tensioner. Ignore it. Link to comment
