Learn how to break properly

And I quote, from BMW Performance Center's ad on page 33 of the October BMW-ON magazine: "Learn how to slalom, how to break properly and how to do anything and everything on two wheels to become a smarter, safer rider."

I always wanted to learn how to break better... ;)

PS - MB's new E-class ad is equally bad. What happened to hiring a copy editor?

I still remember seeing a motorcycle touring company at the Seattle show with a big banner advertising the fact that they offered tours in Italy AND Europe......spell check is no substitute for actual editing.

If you don't already have it, I suggest you pick up a copy of the book "Eats, Shoots, & Leaves" by Lynne Truss and keep it in your bathroom for light but educational reading:

You'd enjoy the book. I did.

Phil (1BMWFan) is my role model!!! :/

While I have achieved major breakage, I just can't compete with Phil's expertise...

The Delines are giving him a run for the money though, you got to admit.

Unfortunately, all too true!

Wait I am confused.

When it comes to motorcycle or rider, breaking anything is never good thing unless you break a speed record, sound barrier or something of that nature. :)

So when they mention " learn to break better" do they mean:

Learn to break better as in - make it less painful ( body)?

Learn to break better as in- break it into more pieces( bike parts)?

Learn to break better as in- at the BMW dealership, break better, as in become broke( financially)= poor.

They have to be more specific when putting out a statement like that.

:)

I think the ad is perfect!

FINALLY, truth in advertising!!!!

bREAK - bRAKE - when it's about Deline or pHILLIPPE' they seem to be the poster children for BMW ---

ESPECIALLY on the "Break" part of the equation.

I do not know how your two do it...I am amazed

If you don't brake properly then the alternative is to break properly. It's win-win either way ;).

"Brakes may be broadly described as using friction, pumping, or electro-magnetics to inhibit motion."

The worst part is, there are probably very few high school students today that would recognize your spelling as a problem. You should see some of the employment applications I have received.

One said (and I quote): "I git it don".

I don't know much about it as I don't do it, but I think it will get a lot worse with the main communication being texting and twitter-ing.

You don't want to "break" at all. You want to "brake" properly.

Sometimes you really need to ahh . . . break as in wind.

And you best do it properly!

This is part of a cunning plan :

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v".

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.

Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas.

If zis mad you smil, pleas pas on to oza pepl ;).

Well, not to pick the fly poop out of the pepper but modern English is derived from German anyway, being a conglomeration of Saxon, German and Latin. If you want true "English" then you would be speaking Welsh,

So there.......... :lurk:

Just make sure you use your brakes properly or your tires will break lose and you will loose traction.

Of course lose and loose are interchangeable in modern usage. As well as break and brake and you're and your. Where does it all end?

Maybe with their and they're?

Selden, ware du u stand on this?
