mrduck
It's that time of year again, for the annual DV Pre-run! The weekend of November 12th, 13th, and the 14th. What's a pre-run? The big Death Valley ride is in January, so this is to make sure that Death Valley is still there, and mostly to have a good excuse to go for a ride in November! Those that haven't been to this ride before, don't believe any stories you may have heard about CHPs,low flying jets, Park Rangers, frozen waterfalls, offroading RT's, or cowboys at the Sourdough Saloon! No pictures,so didn't happen. You WILL have a good time! The folks at the Exchange Club in "beautiful downtown Beatty" have really done us right the last couple of years so that's where we're heading again. 775-553-2333 So, who's in? Don J Link to comment
CoarsegoldKid
I'm up for it. Calling it the pre-run makes me laugh. I call it another excuse to ride the motorcycle somewhere to ride, eat, drink and party with friends. Link to comment
mbelectric
OK, so we'll re-name it then... How about North meets South, West and East, in Beatty, Nevada..close to Death Valley... before the main event in January. Maybe just "mini DVD" forget it. MB> Link to comment
azkaisr
Maybe....just maybe this year I can make it up for this. Link to comment

mrduck
ok Im interested. What do we have to do. Met somewhere? hows this all work Thanks miguel The real beauty of this is there is no schedule, no organized events,no offical anything. The ideal day has you pulling in the hotel lot just as the sun's going down, that means you had a good days ride! Some will be there on Friday, some will show up on Saturday, all up to you. Keep an eye out here for someone from your area that's going around the same day as you, don't be shy to ask if you can tag along, or do the solo ride if you choose. There's a non-stop meet and greet happy hour going on in the parking lot, once the bikes are parked and the keys put away! The roads in DV are superb with some don't miss places! Come on out, you WILL have a good time! Don J Link to comment
CoarsegoldKid
ok Im interested. What do we have to do. Met somewhere? hows this all work Thanks miguel Miguel you will likely take a northern pass over the Sierra and wander over to Beatty one of several routes. I live about smack dab west of Beatty about 150 miles as a big bird flys and will take a southern pass over the Sierra. Takes me about all day to get there. Meet someone if you want. Make your res at the motel. Be prepared to meet folks. There may be a tail-rack party(see last years ride tales). That's how it works. Link to comment

C_Williams
John, Like yourself I will have to see if I can get the time off work. The Pre-Run has always been a fun event, what with The Sourdough Saloon, the Locals, partying with friends, and always great grub. Me thinks I just might be able to do it. mig
ok guys Just made the reservation fro the exchange club. I guess they are not aware that we are coming. Anyway 59 dollars per night for a room for two. So far my daughter has not committed to coming along, so I might have some apace to shere if they are willing. I'll find out soon. Later. Miguel. Oh hey MrDuck you got some routes planned out? Link to comment
Groanup
When I made my reservation a couple days ago the nice lady on the phone told me the "special rate" person was out of town, but that there would be a BMWST rate. She just didn't know what it would be at that time. I was told to call next week if I needed to know what it would be. Link to comment
graydude
Just a reminder to those folks new to the board. This event used to be for determining where the main event would be held in January. As Mr. Duck, has pointed out, we are very pleased with the accommodations and food in Beatty so this event is really an excuse to be hooligans. The real Death Valley Days- DVD, will be held on January 14,15 and 16. Headquarters hotel will be the Exchange Club. The big difference between these two events is 25 degrees colder and we have a steak dinner gala at the Sourdough on Saturday. It would be great to have a commerative tee-shirt from the evernt. If anyone can help me with a design, I'll arrange production on a pre-sale basis. Whadda think? Graydude-Todd Link to comment

Graydude-Todd I think a photo of a Garmin showing coordinates, time, date, speed at well over a ton, maybe just the dashboard, would be nice. Maybe screwtop mountain or Badwater elev. marker as a backdrop. Of course these pics could only be obtained during the event. Link to comment

You can do a good loop through DV, 190 towards the opera house, then south towards Shoshone and Tecopa, then back the low road by Badwater, a good day ride. There is food and gas in Furnace Creek, Shoshone and Stovepipe Wells, along with Beatty. All these roads are paved, except the last half mile up by Thorndike campground, where the charcoal kilns are, but EZ ride on the RT.(Even with snow and ice, ask Heyfrank!) Any questions about some of these spots, just ask Don J Link to comment

CoarsegoldKid
Just curious, but why stretch out a nice day ride into three days? Because it takes all of the daylight this time of year offers from where I live to get there. 1 day to reach Beatty. 1 play day in the huge sand box and party with the gang. 1 day to return. = 3 days. Plus mama says I could. Link to comment

mrduck
Time to bring this ride back up! Just got off the phone with the Exchange Club, put in my reservation for Saturday night. Due to schedule conflicts, won't be there Friday night-BUT-Saturday morning, around 10:00 am or so,a late breakfast in Olancha at the Ranch Cafe! From there,we'll figure out how to spend the rest of the day (Whitney Portal,Wildrose Canyon charcoal kilns, Darwin?)on the way back thru DV to Beautiful Downtown Beatty! Anyone wanting a "somewhat entertaining" ride are welcome to join us. If not, have a good time exploring DV and we'll see ya later on Saturday afternoon in Beatty! Don J Link to comment
