Final drive leak at pivot.

So my final drive seems to be leaking. It is dripping at the rear pivot area, not the frame pivot. My guess without yet taking it apart would be a failed pinion shaft seal? Anyone have any previous experience with a leak in this area?

Worth checking it's not running down the tunnel from gearbox output?

I don't think so, if that was the case wouldn't there be some leaking around the rubber boot? That seems dry.

It sounds like the pinion gear seal. More annoying than anything else, but if it's a low mileage bike, it could mean the gear mesh is too tight and causing the pinion gear to move putting pressure on the seal. With all the problems with these final drives, I would have it checked out.

Bike is an '06 with 87,000 miles. Anyone here ever change that seal? What special tools will I need? I turn wrenches for a living and prefer to do my own work whenever possible.
