Windshell will not all the up??? Why??

Welcome to the forum IKJ, it's good to have you around.

So to business, have you had the bike long?

Has it always displayed this problem?

If not how long?

When did it start?

How did it start?

If you have just got the bike, does the previous owner know anything about it?

When you run it with the engine not running can you hear if the windscreen mechanism makes any strange noises?

The limits of up and down of the windscreen are dictated by limit micro switches, and so for sure, the system can't think its all the way up.

If there was some mechanical resistance you would hear the motor 'load up' and potentially stall, but I am sure 1 of 2 things would happen. 1/. you'd strip some of the internal gearing. or 2/. you bike would blow a fuse.

I am wondering if you have a damaged mechanism where you have lost a tooth or 2, and the system will only reach the point where there are no more teeth to drive and so it stops there.

Question to confirm this. If you drive the windscreen up and the windscreen stops but you hear the motor continue running, then there's a good chance that this is what has happened.

Keep us posted.

Andy thanks for the weclcome to the forum and the respo9nse.

More info on the problem:

Had the bike several years with no problem.

Problem started this past weekend. While riding, attempted to rise the windshell from it's lowest position and would only go up about 1" or so.

No nosies with windshield mechanism when bike is running (center stand) or when the windshell goes up or down. Fuse?? what fuse??

thanks

F1 in the fuse box provides power via the up / down switch to operate the up / down relays.

F3 in the fuse box provides power to the windscreen motor (and will drive it in the relevant direction as dictated by the up / down relays).

So for you at the moment, you can drive the windscreen both directions (yes / no)?

But only about an inch from the fully down position (yes / no)?

With the engine not running, but ignition on, drive the windscreen up keep the up button pushed - you can hear the motor run. When it reaches the 1 inch up, does the motor carry on running (even though the screen has stopped)? or does the motor stop running. Now release the button! Let us know.

The windshield motor and mechanism is attached to a plastic mount. There's a plastic cover over the gears. If that cover is loose, or if the plastic mount is cracked, the gears can separate and then the up/down limits are thrown out of whack. If this happened you'd expect to hear the motor run and stall out when it gets to the bottom and hits the rubber bumpers.

Guys, thanks for jumping in.

info--

nothing blocking the mechanism.

with engine not running, but ignition on, with button pushed the windscreen goes all the way up (approx. 1')--the motor stops running (no nosie, like it is still trying to take windscreen all way up to it's max up position)

One more thing--just open up the front of the bike. The plastic cover over the gears is in one pcs and not loose. Check again with the front open --no noise, no stall out.
